How do I clean the KODAK 805 Photo Printer?

Answer:

Performing Routine Maintenance


Thoroughly clean the printer each time you replace the ribbon.
Alcohol pads used for cleaning must be lint-free (not made from cotton) and at least 70% isopropyl alcohol.
Alcohol pads from the KODAK Thermal Printer Cleaning Kit, Catalog Number 172-1117, are recommended.

To perform routine maintenance:

1. Remove the ribbon.

2. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.

3. Do the following procedures in order unless you are instructed to do something different.

CAUTION:

• Never use abrasives or harsh chemicals to clean any part of the printer.

• Do not allow any foreign objects or liquids to fall or spill inside the printer. Fire or electric shock

could result.

• Alcohol is a flammable liquid. It can cause eye irritation and dry skin. Wash hands with soap and

water following maintenance procedures where you use alcohol pads.

Procedure Frequency Material

Exterior each ribbon change lint-free cloth dampened with water, vacuum cleaner

Thermal Print Head each ribbon change alcohol pad

Platen Roller each ribbon change alcohol pad

Capstan Roller each ribbon change masking tape or clear tape

Pick Rollers as needed alcohol pad

Cleaning the Exterior

1. Make sure that the printer is turned off and the power cord is disconnected.

2. Vacuum the filter openings.

3. Use a damp, lint-free cloth to wipe the printer exterior and paper tray.
Cleaning the Thermal Print Head

1. Make sure that the printer is turned off and the power cord is disconnected.

CAUTION:

The thermal print head becomes extremely hot during normal operation. Avoid contact with the hot
surface.

2. Wait approximately two minutes for the thermal print head to cool.

CAUTION:

o Fingerprints can damage the glass part of the thermal print head. Never touch it with your

bare hands or fingers.

o Do not clean any areas except the ones mentioned below.

3. Use alcohol pads to clean the heater line and the stripper plate.

o Apply firm, even pressure.

o Wipe along the entire length of the area, in one direction only.

o Make at least three passes, using a clean part of the pad for each pass.

o Repeat, as needed, until no dirt appears on the pad.

Cleaning the Platen Roller


1. Make sure that the ribbon is removed, the printer is turned off, and the power cord is disconnected.

2. Use an alcohol pad to clean the platen roller. Wipe in one direction only, rotating the roller to clean

the entire surface.

Cleaning the Capstan Roller

1. Make sure that the ribbon is removed, the printer is turned off, and the power cord is disconnected.

2. Use masking tape or clear tape to clean the capstan roller. Rotate the roller to clean the entire

surface.
3. Have false Paper Empty or Paper Jam errors occurred?

cleaned areas to dry.

b. Connect the power cord and turn on the


printer.

c. Load the ribbon.

d. Make a test print.

Cleaning the Pick Rollers


IMPORTANT:
Clean the pick rollers only if paper feeding problems or false Paper Empty or Paper Jam errors have
occurred.

1. Make sure that the printer is turned off and the power cord is disconnected.

2. Remove the paper tray.


3. Use an alcohol pad to clean the pick rollers. Wipe in one direction only, rotating the rollers to clean

the entire surface.

4. Wait approximately two minutes for the cleaned areas to dry.

5. Press down on the paper in the paper tray until you hear a click.

6. Install the paper tray.

7. Connect the power cord and turn on the printer.

8. Load the ribbon.

9. Make a test print.
