SYNONYMS AND ANTONYMS

OBJECTIVES
Students will be able to improve their vocabulary by learning synonyms
and antonyms together in this engaging module. They will be able to
demonstrate understanding of words by relating them to their opposites
(antonyms) and to words with similar but not identical meanings
(synonyms). To make their writing more interesting, students can test and
decide on the appropriate use of synonyms and antonyms.

Hi! How are you today? Another day another learning slay. Today you are going to learn
about similarities and its opposites. Are you ready? Let’s start!

Directions: To do this short activity,you need to imagine that you are with
a partner. Are you done thinking of a specific person to partnered with? I
think you do! It can be your bestfriend,your mom or your
sibling.Now,check if you know the antonyms below.One of you chooses a
pair and argues that one of the items is better than one other. Your partner
argues that the opposite thing is better.Give reasons for your answer.

Now that you have an idea about our topic. Let’s proceed to the exiciting part to
empowering your mind. You can do this!

SYNONYM
is a word that has the same or nearly the same, meaning as another
word.
Example:

Choosing effective synonyms can make your writing more precise and interesting. Even
synonyms have shades of meaning - you need to pick the most appropriate synonym to fit
the meaning of your sentence.

Directions: Read this short shory, try to spot any words that are synonyms
of each other:

The large town of Twinkdom holds a secret. Every year, at the spectacular Christmas
carol service, a msytery person donates the best mince pies ever tasted.

The choir wear eye-catching outfits and sing tunefully while the audience watch and
appreciate the show.

When the show ends, everyone joins together in the vast town hall where they enjoy the
perfect mince pies.
They all speculate as to who the amazing, unknown baker might be but nobody knows for
sure.
