1- Desalting of crude oil from salts : before starting the distillation process to
reduce equipment corrosion , And getting rid of suspended sand grains and
particles of clay accompanying during the extraction process from the wells ,
And maintaining the efficiency of the work of heat exchangers, in addition to
preventing the poisoning of Catalyst used in the subsequent stages of refining.

3- Atmospheric Distillation :
It is the basic unit for separating oil derivatives at this stage, and the
distillation tower of a suitable height for the unit capacity is equipped with
a number of trays to separate the primary products from each other. Hot
crude oil is pumped to it near the lower third of the tower and steam from
the bottom, so the hot oil begins to rise to the top, then the materials
separate from each other according to their molecular weights. It is collecte
in the appropriate tanks and the light fumes continue to climb to the top to
exit from the top of the distillation tower and are treated appropriately in
the light products processing unit. Where part of the condensate is returned
to the tower from the top to help wash the separation trays by contacting it
with the upward fumes. And release the remaining light components, while
the heavy components are leaked to the bottom of the tower to exit from it
to the Atmospheric residue tanks in preparation for transfer to the vacuum
distillation unit to continue its treatment
4- Vacuum distillation : In principle, the vacuum distillation tower does not differ
from the air distillation tower and is used to treat air distillation waste that is
injected into the vacuum distillation tower and heated to higher temperatures
taking into account that it is not charred under low air pressure to obtain Light
vacuum diesel oil & Heavy vacuum diesel oil Which will be Processed later in
the appropriate improvement units and will be rid of excess sulfur , As for the
vacuum distillation waste, it will be transferred to the oxidation unit in order to
convert the tar into a multi-purpose asphalt and commercially marketable .
5- Optimization units : The octane number in gasoline is raised and the sulfur
content is reduced by chemically and thermally treating it In addition to treating
diesel resulting from vacuum distillation and converting it into normal diesel ,
Tar will be treated in the oxidation unit in order to convert it into a mixed-use,
commercially marketable asphalt
