Real fake: ego and the lies of social media

Behind a comment of appreciation lies an emotion of envy; a post

of triumph lies the reality of failure; a publicity of good act lies the evil
heart from within.

Welcome to the world of madness! Welcome to the world of

insecurity! Welcome to the world of distorted reality!

Are we truly perfect human beings? “Hey, here’s my new shoes,

my new bag, my new wallet, my new house, my new car, everything about
me that is new, I’m posting it!” “Hey, thank you to my mother for giving
me all the love, to my father for the support, to my brothers and sisters, for
the allowance, to my friends for the treat, everyone who helped me, I’m
posting it! “Hey, I’m helping a pauper; I’m feeding a dog, I’m watering
the plants, everything that I do good, I’m posting it!”

Funny how millennials are fond of parading everything good that

are happening in their lives. How amazing they are for portraying a
perfection of their living. And how grandiose are the photographs of their
inviting food and adventurous travels! But behold! Something is odd.
Behind one great photo posted lies a hundred of shots representing
failures of an instagrammable portraitures. Yes! We are now living this
kind of society today.

Let’s accept it! Facebook awakens our pride; twitter ignites our
rage; Instagram invites our gluttony. These are just some of the most
popular social networking sites that grow the deadly sins from within.
These maneuver us to the worldliness diverting ourselves to virtual
happiness taking away our souls from our humanity.

Who are we then? Who are we now? With the prevalence of

technology seeming this as indispensable, with embracing a cashless
world where everything is gradually sold through internet currency, with
losing personal communication replacing it with just teleconferencing,
skyping, video calling, and the likes, where can we find now humanity?
It is just sad to note, that all these years, from the dawn of
empowered virtual civilization, human beings are already encaged with
the fakeness and seemed being played by the whoever unknown controlling
the subconsciousness of every individual. Let us wake up! Social media is
threatening the humanity in so many ways:

The Birth of Dual Personality. Who we are in social media is not

who we are in reality. We are bound into oxymoronic portrayal of
ourselves, revealing what is likeable in the virtual world but hiding the
real self we have in our own bedrooms. We have developed diverse entities
and identities depending on the two worlds we are revolving- virtual and
real.

In social networking sites, our personalities are scam! Obviously,

who would dare to portray himself or herself as evil before the virtual
public? No one of course; if possible, only the good sides of ourselves
must be sensationally highlighted. And let our darkest sides, our bad
habits, our dirt, our unpleasant stories encaged in secrecy that only our
real selves and loved ones know. Or in the other way around, imagine
someone who seemed to be reserved in the community’s perception but
reveals a different side in Facebook.

Boastful Humility. The real winners do not brag their being

champions, the real rich do not parade their affluence. But as observed,
millennials post every detail of success and every material of their
acquisition appearing to belong among socialites. But what is pseudo-
humbling on this are the captions of gratitude. Every time, we fulfill
something, we post it. Are these actuations necessary?

Millennials may not be aware, consciously of course, that their

minds are being played with social media through considering them as
means to reveal their pride and greed. It seems that the acts are on their
truest kindness, but in real sense, boastfulness is dressed in the clothing of
humility. Admit it, you post success primarily to show the world what you
have got and expressing gratitude is just as a secondary reason for others
define you as a humble human being. But here is real for you, they do not
actually care.

The Social Media Ego. How would you feel when there are only
two or three likes on your post? Painful is in it? Funny how millennials
delete their post on their social media walls after observing less number o
f likes. This is what you call social media ego. You feel frustrated
and discourage if you cannot reach a hundred of your likes and even
comments of your status because this instance reveals that there are only
few individuals who mind your life.

You feel embarrassed when no one likes your ideas, you feel down
when you feel no one cares on your posts. Why is this so? Simply because
you do not want expression, you want attention. For you, every like
counts, every reaction is valuable and even every comment is divine, for
they are evidences that people are following you; their eyes are on you
and that you feel that they mind you.

But keep this in your mind, I know you are hurt, I know why.
Scientists have just discovered the center of the universe, and it’s not you!

2. When can you say that an academic text like an essay is competent
or not? Explain.
3. How important is for a writer to follow standards or mechanics in
writing academic structure such as essay?

Writing is not just simply expressing one’s thoughts and emotions

in a particular piece of paper. More than anything else, writing requires an
individual to be competent in different skills related to language,
communication, and social contents. To be a competent writer, one
essential consideration is the awareness on the type of writing required in a
particular field of knowledge. Writing in the field of education may be
different from business; literature from engineering; journalism from
social and natural sciences, and the likes.
Each type of academic or professional writing requires different
styles, formats, and even structures. One basic knowledge a writer must
possess is the ability to determine the structures and inclusions on the
paragraphs found in a basic academic paper. One basic example of an
academic and professional write-up is essay. An essay, to qualify for a
certain standard as an academic document, must contain the three basic
structures or paragraphs.

First is Introduction, this is considered as part of the whole text

that establishes the overview or the macro-perspective of the topic. It is the
motivation setter. Thus, it must be catchy or interesting so that the reader
would have the bigger chance in reading the article. This may be presented
into different ways: striking statement, anecdote, paradoxical statement,
question, quotation, one word striking lead, idioms, and the likes.

Second is the Body, this may be presented in several paragraphs. It

is considered as the meat of the article. It contains contents such as
statistics, surveys, research results, explanations, cause and effects,
procedures, arguments, enumerations or any contents of a particular
knowledge that are expectedly informative.

Lastly the conclusion, this contains the generalization, call to

action, moral lesson, and over-all point an author wants to emphasize on
his/her article. The ending paragraphs of an essay must be striking and
worthy to be remembered as far as the thought is concerned. It must
establish consistency of the ideas connected to the title, introduction, and
body producing an entire article with unity.

(OBJECTIVE 8. Applied a range of successful strategies that

maintain learning environments that motivate learners to work
productively by assuming responsibility for their own learning.)

(Encourage learners to listen and apply it to real life for survival if

needed.)

4. Application The students shall now be asked questions about the topic in relation
to real life:

1. If you are to write essays in real life, what could be your topics of
interest? Why do you choose those?
2. How important is knowing proper standards of writing in your life as
a student?
3. How do you compare writing essay in living your life in this world?

(OBJECTIVE 4: Used effective verbal and non-verbal

classroom communication strategies to support learner
understanding, participation, engagement, and achievement.)

(In verbal communication, the teacher includes not only the choice
of words, but also the tone, stress, and modulations that are used to
emphasize points and express emotions. For non-verbal
communication, the teacher shall be mindful of body language, eye
contact, personal space, gestures, and facial expressions.)

(OBJECTIVE 7: Maintained learning environments that

nurture and inspire learners to participate, cooperate and
collaborate in continued learning.)
(Allow learners to learn not just in the four corners of the classroom
and apply learning to real life situations.

The students shall be given enumeration short quiz about the

structures of academic text.

academic text like essay?
