ACTIVITY 1

1. Differentiate Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells.

 Prokaryotic Cell - Prokaryotes are unicellular organisms that lack

membrane-bound structures, the most noteworthy of which is the
nucleus. In prokaryotic cells, DNA bundles together in a region
called the nucleoid. Prokaryotes can be split into two domains,
bacteria and archaea.

 Eukaryotic Cell - Eukaryotes are organisms whose cells have a

nucleus and other organelles enclosed by a plasma membrane.
Organelles are internal structures responsible for a variety of
functions, such as energy production and protein synthesis and
most eukaryotes are multicellular organisms, there are some
single-cell eukaryotes.

2. What is Plant and Animal Cell?

 Plant Cell - Plant cells are the basic unit of life in organisms of the
kingdom Plantae.A plant cell wall is arranged in layers and
contains cellulose microfibril, hemicellulose, pectin, lignin, and
soluble protein.

 Animal Cell - Animal cells are typical of the eukaryotic cell,

enclosed by a plasma membrane and containing a membrane-bound
nucleus and organelles.
3. What are the Cell Structure and Functions?

 Cell Structure - The cell structure comprises individual

components with specific functions essential to carry out life's
processes. These components include- cell wall, cell membrane,
cytoplasm, nucleus, and cell organelles.

 Functions - The cell provides support and structure to the body. It

helps in reproduction. Provides energy and allows the transport of
substances.

4. Who are those scientist that contribute to the discovery of the cell?

 The cell was first discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665 using a

microscope. The first cell theory is credited to the work of Theodor
Schwann and Matthias Jakob Schleiden in the 1830s.

5. How important the discovery of cell to human life?

 Cells are the basic building blocks of all living things. The human
body is composed of trillions of cells. They provide structure for
the body, take in nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into
energy, and carry out specialized functions and the discovery of
the cell has led to advances in medical technology and treatment.
