correct answer to each of the questions from 31 to 35.
School Yellow Bus
Over 480,000 school buses transport nearly 26 million children to school each day. With such an
immense number of buses on the road, it is no wonder that the school bus is such a familiar sight.
Aside from the fact that there are so many of them, something else makes the school bus very
familiar to our eyes: their color.
School buses are all the same color—a shade of yellow that is officially called “National School
Bus Glossy Yellow” in the United States. According to federal law, all school buses must be painted
this exact color.
The official color for school buses was chosen at a 1939 conference on school transportation
organized by Dr. Frank Cyr, a professor of education. During this conference, a group of experts
decided what size, how many lights, and which safety features all school buses in the country
should have. They also decided that all school buses should be painted a special shade of yellow.
Yellow was chosen because experts believed it made the school bus most visible to other drivers.
School buses are typically on the road very early in the morning, often before the sun rises. The
yellow color makes a school bus easier to see when it is still dark outside. In addition, yellow is the
easiest color to see in bad weather conditions, such as fog, rain, or snow.
Yellow is also the easiest color to see in your peripheral vision. Even when you look straight
ahead, you can still see things to your right and left without turning your head. This is called
peripheral vision. Many people call this seeing something “from the corners of your eyes.” When
you are driving, it is sometimes difficult to see things in your peripheral vision. Scientists
determined that yellow objects are more noticeable in your peripheral vision than objects of any
other color. In fact, people can see yellow objects in their peripheral vision almost 125% better than
they can see red objects. This is another reason why yellow was chosen as the official color of all
school buses.
Some people find the yellow color of school buses to be cheerful and bright. Others think that it
is loud and ugly. The most important thing, however, is that it is the safest color for a vehicle that
transports children.
Question 31: Why did the experts decide to choose Yellow as the official color?
A. It looks more glorious under the sun light.
B. It has the same color as safety features in the city.
C. It is observable even in the awful weather.
D. Drivers won’t fall asleep when they see yellow buses in the morning.

Avoiding the Antibiotic Apocalypse
This may sound catastrophic or like the stuff of terrifying science-fiction movies, but according
to the World Health Organization the threat of an “antibiotic apocalypse” is very real, and many
experts fear that it’s only a matter of time before we see the emergence of a superbug- a very
powerful type of bacteria that typical drugs cannot kill- capable of wiping out huge numbers of
people.
Perhaps most disturbing of all is the fact that this prospective disaster has been anticipated for
many decades. To all intents and purposes, the earliest warnings derived from Sir Alexander
Fleming, the Scottish doctor and bacteriologist who discovered the world’s first antibiotic substance
– penicillin. There is no doubting the fact that it changed medical practices beyond all recognitions.
Infections that had previously been fatal were now treatable.
In the speech he made when accepting the Nobel Prize for his work, Fleming forewarned that
bacteria could become resistant to antibiotics if regularly exposed to concentrations insufficient to
kill them. Alarmingly, this is precisely what happened! Antibiotics are now prescribed for non-life-
threatening illnesses including sore throats, colds and ear infections, and provided that doctors
refuse their requests, many patients will opt for the internet for their desired medication. On top of
this, a large percentage of all antibiotics are now being utilised in farming. One case in point is

healthy animals that consume antibiotics to ensure rapid weight gain. Given all of this, it’s not
surprising that more and more bacteria are eventually evolving a resistance.
For fear of the potential spread of any deadly infections, Hosam Zowadi – the Saudi
microbiologist – has dedicated a considerable portion of his time not only to develope a test that’s
able to identify bacteria in hours rather than days, allowing doctors to intervene more quickly and
efficiently but also to raise public awareness of the risks of antibiotic overuse. In addition to that, in
the Netherlands, the government has put pressure on farmers to reduce the amount of antibiotics
given to animals.
Elsewhere, people are incrementally aware of the need to address the underlying conditions
that allow new diseases to diffuse, which, in turn, leads to better trash collection, better drainage,
and better housing. Finally, we’re starting to see increased investment in research aimed at finding
the new antibiotics that could be the penicillin of tomorrow.
Question 36: According to Word Health Organization, the term “antibiotic apocalypse” indicates
that ___________.
A. new forms of old diseases are now proving deadly.

B. Its side effects could destroy harmful bacteria or limit their growth.
C. It would end up so widely used that it no longer has curative effect on new bacteria.
D. It can make fatal illnesses treatable every now and then.
Question 39: According to the passage, why are there more and more deadly superbugs?
