What is critical lift?

• Any crane lift that requires a Critical Lift Plan (See

• Any part of a crane whose boom or boom
attachment is working within 10 meters (33 feet)
of any hydrocarbon and/or pressurized piping
areas
• Any part of a crane whose boom or boom
attachment is working within 10 meters (33 feet)
of any populated/traffic areas
• Any crane lift that requires an attachment(s) to
the main boom
• Any load forty (40) tons or greater

Requirements for lifeline

Anchor points for lanyards and self-retracting lifelines
shall:
Be capable of supporting at least 2,268 kg (5,000 lbs.)
per person attached and can safely support 2,268 kg
(5,000 lbs.) dead weight (e.g., about the weight of a car)
Horizontal lifelines (see Figure 5.5) shall:
Be a minimum 12 mm (1/2 inch) diameter wire rope
having a breaking strength specified by the
manufacturer of at least 9,000 kg (20,000 lbs.).
Vertical lifelines (see Figure 5.6) shall:
Be attached to an anchor point that is capable of
supporting at least 2,268 kg (5,000 lbs.) dead weight.
Be made from wire rope with a minimum diameter of 10
mm (3/8 inch).

• Properly licensed and certified operators (Refer
to GI 7.025).
• Saudi Aramco certified riggers shall be used to
rig all loads
• Local work permit procedures shall be followed
when work is performed within the above limits
(Refer to GIs 2.100 and 2.702)
Incident reporting

Contractor personnel shall immediately report to their
supervisor:
• Job-related fatalities
• All on-job injuries and occupational illnesses
• Damage to property or equipment
• All fires and explosions
• All oil spills/leaks and gas leaks
• All near misses

A method statement is a description of how the work
will be carried out safely. This is to provide information
to workers about how the work should be done and the
precautions needed.

Difference between HIP and JSA
Hazard Identification Plan (HIP) is the register of all
activities on the project with identified hazards and
mitigation measures while Job Safety Analysis (JSA) is
for specific activities with steps and identified hazards
with corresponding mitigation measures.
