WEB 3.0

Introduction
Web 3.0, the impending third generation of the internet, will enable websites and
applications to process information in a cleaver, human-like manner with technologies like
machine learning (ML), big data, decentralized ledger technology (DLT), etc. Decentralized
data interconnection is a significant improvement over the Web 2.0 era of internet, where
most data is kept in central repositories. Furthermore, users, as well as machines will e able
to interact with information that is available to them.

Evolution

Web 1.0
Also called Static Web, this is the first and most reliable internet from the early 1990s to mid-
2000s. It did not have any user interaction or any algorithms to sift internet pages, so finding
relevant information was extremely difficult.
Web 2.0
Also called Social Web, this generation of internet made the internet much more interactive
due to advancements in web technologies like HTML5 and JavaScript. This created a path for
the creation of social networking and content creation by the users on the internet. This era
of internet saw the emergence of thousands of internet-based start-ups.

Web 3.0
Web 3.0 was originally called the Semantic Web by Tim Berners-Lee. This is the next
generation of internet that would make internet intelligent though advancements in
technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchains. This era also shifted the way the
internet was being developed, from centralized authorities to open-source.

Key Features

Decentralization
In Web 3.0, the information would be stored based on the content rather than being stored
and fetched from a single server. Hence this information can be decentralized and stored on
multiple servers simultaneously. This would also mean that there would be no need for
permission from a central authority to post anything on the internet. Everything would be
free from censorship and surveillance.

Semantic Web
Semantics is the study of relationships between words. A semantic web would be able to
analyze tons of data which includes contents and transactions between people and decode
the meaning of their words. This will help in giving a better and more pleasant internet
experience to the users.

Ubiquity
Ubiquity means the ability to be omnipresent. The ubiquitous web in Web 3.0 would not be
confined to devices such as smartphones and computers but be available on any smart device
in this era of Internet of Things (IOT).

2
Artificial Intelligence
The internet will be able to understand and process information in a manner that is like
humans. It would also employ machine learning to gradually improve its accuracy and have
better understanding of how humans think. This would help in having faster and more
relevant results in a variety of areas.

Applications

Voice Assistants
Major voice assistant technology like Apple’s Siri is gaining popularity among the users. It uses
voice recognition to perform complex commands using natural language processing.

Decentralized Exchanges
Because they offer a flawless user trading experience without worrying about any hacks,
decentralized exchanges are progressively gaining favor. They also ensure that there is no
central authority and no owner-side conflict of interest. A variety of decentralized finance
systems are employed by users to streamline their services.

Some of the major benefits of these exchanges over traditional ones are:

 Cheaper and faster transactions

 Hard to hack due to the decentralized nature
 Users control their own funds
