ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I gratefully acknowledge my sincere thanks to our
respected physics teacher Dr Ajay Gehlot for
his remarkable, valuable guidance and supervision
throughout the project work.
Then I would like to thank my parents and friends
who have helped me with their valuable suggestion
and guidance has been helpful in various phase of the
completion of the project.
Last I would like to thanks my classmate who have
helped me a lot.
PRINCIPLE
 When an conducting wire placed in a
magnetic field. It experience a force
F= idl*B
F= idl.B sin0
(where ‘0’ is angle between dl and B) and dl
is always in direction of current.

 Magnetic field lines produce by a

magnet always form a close loop. There
is no end of termination of magnetic
field lines.
OBJECTIVE
To Construct a Nail Motor using the principles of
Electric and Magnetic effect.
COMPONENT USE
 A very strong magnet
 A battery
 Small conducting wire
 Point headed screw
 Holder
MODEL DIAGRAM
CONSTRUCTION
 One end of wire is taped with
negative terminal of battery and battery
is holded in the holder.

 Head of screw is attached on one of

the pole of strong magnet.

 Now tail of screw is brought near

positive terminal of battery. Due to
magnetic effect it will get struck.
WORKING
As the one end of wire is attached to the curved
surface of strong magnet the whole system get
started start rotating very fast.
For rotation we need a torque and for a torque we
need a force for providing necessary torque.
That force come from the equation-
[F=idl* B]
as the current flow from the +ve terminal of battery
to magnet through screw. Since the circuit is closed
and wire is attached to the curved surface of battery
so current has to be moved axially from center to
curved part of magnet where wire is attached.
So as we know direction of dl=direction of current.
Therefore direction of dl is also axially outward.
Now the magnetic field B which is inside the magnet
is playing a key role whose direction is north to
South Pole. Cross product of dl and B is direction of
force. Angle between dl and B is 90 which provide
torque.
