On the
following day, the
elders are going to
open the poison to
be brought to the
river and spread it
there killing all fishes
in it. They are going
to collect and gather
all the kasili caught
and divide equally
among the people.
Merriment of the
people begins. This
is how the festival of
Bangkakawan
started.
Later
on, this practice of
poisoning the eels or
kasili was prohibited
because it is very
dangerous to our
environment.
As the
years pass by
different cultural
activities were
created to make the
celebration of the
said occasion more
fun and colorful.
Today Bangkakawan
is an exciting and
vibrant festival held
every 18th of June of
each year in
celebration of the
Araw Ng San
Fernando.
San Fernando
celebrates its
birthday in an
impressive
entertainment
fashion to the joy of
the general public.
