Introduction

Section 1: Introduction

Overview
This publication describes the differences between the MIM 200 V_3.2.1 and MIM 200 V_4.0. It is designed to be
used with the existing service publication. Most of the service procedures have not changed since the MIM 200
V_3.2.1.
For more information, see the SERVICE MANUAL for the Kodak PACS LINK MEDICAL IMAGE MANAGER 50/100/
200 and the Kodak PACS LINK DICOM PRINT SERVER, Publication No. 2H7443.

Theory
The MIM 200 V_4.0 uses the existing MIM 200 hardware platform with an upgraded software package (V_4.0) as a
PRINT SERVER for the Kodak DryView 8200 LASER IMAGER. The MIM 200 V_4.0 accepts DICOM inputs only, no
direct digital or video connections. The only qualified destination is the 8200 LASER IMAGER.
The MIM 200 supports from 1 to 8 simultaneous DICOM associations. The MIM accepts multiple images on a single
page but then formats the page to be sent to the LASER IMAGER as a 1-up format. The MIM also operates with the
DICOM Service Class User (SCU) to create and manage multi-page studies.
The MIM 200 sends pages to the LASER IMAGER configured as a direct print destination. The connection between
the MIM and the LASER IMAGER is an Ethernet Crossover CABLE. The LASER IMAGER must have the MIM 200
set up as a registered user or it will not print. Also, the MIM 200 must have the license for “DV8200 Print Delivery”
enabled to allow it to choose the LASER IMAGER for a print destination.
It is possible to upgrade an existing MIM 200 V_3.2.1 to the V_4.0, but it is not likely to happen in the field because
of the limited application of V_4.0. Any software upgrade to MIM V_4.0 will be accomplished by “ghosting” the HARD
DRIVE from a CD.

Special Requirements
The following equipment must have the indicated software version or higher installed to be compatible with the MIM
200 V_4.0 application:

LAPTOP COMPUTER
• MIM Service Software V_4.0
• MIM Laptop Basic Software V_2.0, V_3.0, V_3.5, and V_3.6

MIM Service Software V_3.2.1

The MIM V_3.2.1 Service Software does not list the LASER IMAGER as a qualified print destination. You must either
add it as an unqualified destination, or download the V_3.2.1a Service Software update from the Lotus Notes “Useful
PC & MAC Tools” database on KHISDALNOTES01/Public. After downloading this update to your LAPTOP
COMPUTER the LASER IMAGER is listed as a qualified network print destination. Use the destination parameters
in “Destination Specifications” on Page 21 when setting up the LASER IMAGER as an unqualified destination.

Kodak Digital Science COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY SYSTEM 400

• The printer type should be configured as “MIM” (WETLASER) to allow landscape formats to be printed.
• Two lines of page annotation are printed on the bottom of each film. Line no. 1 will be the annotation text
containing the patient demographic data and line no. 2 will be the common text containing the film session label.
• The QUALITY CONTROL WORKSTATION (QCW) always sends TRIM by default. This causes the PRINT
SERVER to trigger page rendering, which adds about 30 seconds to overall time to first print. If all users do not
require TRIM, then TRIM can be disabled in the destination setup of the PRINT SERVER to bypass the page
rendering.
• Optimal image quality is achieved if the tonescaling is done at the SCP Services menu of the DISPLAY KEYPAD.
Use the following settings:
PLUT: N
Tonescaling: PL
Always Apply? Y
TFT/ULUT: Wkstn2A
Always Apply? Y
Contrast: 5
Always Apply? Y
• The requested image size setting must be set from “FULL” to “SCALE” in the MIM configuration file to achieve
optimal system performance and avoid triggering the requested size scale processing on the PRINT SERVER.
This can be configured through Pro-act or by editing the printer_info file. Example:
MIM CS000\\TM%SES%%PRNTDAT NORMAL 1 MAGAZINE BOTH SCALE 40000
• The time to first print of a typical CR 400 image varies from 244 seconds to 256 when printing on 14x17 in. from
the upper tray. The print time variation is caused by the DICOM transmission of the QCW.

Kodak DirectView CR 800/900 SYSTEMS

There is no way to automate the selection of different film sizes for printing from the CR 800/900. You must set up a
separate print destination on the CR 800/900 for each film size the customer prints. The CR 800/900 with V_2.2
software and above has the MIM/LASER IMAGER available as a qualified print destination. The CR 800/900 with
V_1.4.5 software must set up the LASER IMAGER as an unqualified destination using the following parameters:

Ghosting Software
The MIM 200 V_4.0 software can be upgraded or reloaded from a CD using a ghost procedure. The MIMs with serial
numbers below 100600 need to have the BIOS configured to work with the ghost procedure. The MIMs with serial
numbers above 100600 can go directly to “Ghost Procedure” on Page 24.

BIOS Setup
[1] Connect a MONITOR and KEYBOARD to the MIM. BIOS cannot be accessed with the LAPTOP COMPUTER.
[2] Energize the MIM and press the [F1] key at the “Press F1 for Configuration Setup” message.
[3] At the Configuration/Setup Utility menu, use the [↑] and [↓] keys to select “Start Options.”
[4] Press [Enter].
[5] Use the [↑] and [↓] keys to select “Startup Sequence.”
[6] Press [Enter].

Ghost Procedure
[1] Energize the MIM.
[2] Open the CD ROM tray immediately and insert the V_4.0 GHOST CD.
[3] Close the CD ROM tray and the software loads automatically.
[4] Ghosting completes in about 2 minutes. The MIM will beep:
• 3 times if the ghost procedure was successful
• 10 times for failure of the ghost procedure
[5] Remove the GHOST CD and cycle power on the MIM.

Note
It will take several minutes longer than normal for the MIM Application software to launch after executing the ghost
procedure. The DRIVE is not configured and has no licenses enabled.
[6] Connect the LAPTOP COMPUTER to the MIM and establish a connection.

Note
The IP address defaults to 123.123.123.10.
[7] Obtain a Site Key from the Technical Support Center to enable the necessary licenses.
[8] Restore the saved configuration from the floppy or do the configuration of the MIM from the beginning.

Activity History Logs

Setting Log Levels
The Activity History log for the MIM includes information about the performance and operation of the MIM. The log
system tracks the 7 functional areas of the MIM. During normal operation, the log levels are set at 2. Use the tables
below to determine which subsystem log levels should be increased to diagnose a problem.

Important
• Set levels above 5 only when instructed by Service Engineering.
• Always return log levels to 2 when troubleshooting is completed.
