PSSI Talks of Possible FIFA Sanctions after Kanjuruhan Tragedy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) deputy chairman Iwan
Budianto claimed the international governing body of football FIFA had never discussed
sanctions that the country might face after the Kanjuruhan stadium tragedy that killed at least
131 people.
Iwan said PSSI immediately informed FIFA the day after the tragic incident on October
1, 2022. FIFA President Gianni Infantino, he said, even asked President Joko Jokowi Widodo's
number to express his condolences.
“The day after the incident, the PSSI Secretary General communicated with FIFA. FIFA
President Gianni was able to communicate with President Jokowi by phone was the result of
FIFA's communication with our Secretary General,” said Iwan in Jakarta, Thursday.
In every communication that PSSI has with FIFA, there has never been a discussion
regarding the possibility of sanctions for Indonesia, he claimed.
FIFA, according to Iwan, actually offered to help improve Indonesian football. “Gianni
