ABSTRACT
Of all the contemporary Indian – English novelists, Anita Desai is indisputably the best
novelist who, even in her midcareer has made a commendable contribution to Indian English
fiction. This dissertation entitled, ‘A Portrayal Marital Disharmony in the Select Novels of
Anita Desai’ is a modest attempt in bringing out the themes of Desai with reference to her three
novels Cry, the Peacock, Voices in the City and Where Shall We Go This Summer?
