INTRODUCTION

In today’s dynamic market companies to withstand with competition and to maintain good

revenues, companies need to take good projects which ensure sustainable profits to the company.

But with limited resources company deciding whether to choose a new project or should

terminate an existing project so this process of selecting or terminating the project is known as

portfolio management. But terminating a project is not that easy because company profit/loss and

budget on that project till now and relation with clients and brand image comes into

consideration while terminating the project. A lot of research needs to be done before selecting a

new project like risk assessment, security and resources and many some other factors will be

considered. So in this research, researcher reviewed the selection of projects of Tata consultancy

services.

A Tata consultancy service is a subsidiary company of Tata group and currently it is working in

46 countries and in 146 locations it was established in the year 1968. Recently TCS have become

number one it service provider in world. TCS provide services in various sectors like banking,

cloud, artificial intelligence and also in banking. Not only private sector TCS extends their

services to public sector and governments also, they have given services to postal department,

income tax department and railway department. TCS also provide products in information

technology also helps companies in consulting, payment processing and in many more activities.

So in this research I will explain the status of three projects by Tata consulting services.

ANALYSIS

Cellc is one of the top telecommunication providers in South Africa; cellc has approached tcs for

their services because with launch of their new product and services cellc has struggled allot for

training of their sales personals and customer care agents and executives were not able to

perform their jobs properly and many processes were manually done and there was no update in

their training programs so cellc approached tcs and tcs has given them a cloud based solution

which ensured cellc give updated trainings, attendance and new product information to their

employees through this cloud services. Tcs has also helped cellc to enhance their customer care

by providing them cloud services for customer care and enhanced their operations these are the

reasons for tcs to choose the project as cellc is top performer and tcs will able to generate the

good profits by providing services to them and tcs thought they can make cellc as their long

duration client, as they thought tcs is helping cellc since 2005.

Tcs is still working with cellc on their project, this projects is still going because cellc is happy

with services and value adds by tcs because project manager of this project has created a special

role for this project to satisfy cellc named as analyst role which is only dedicated to cellc project

where this analyst will be helpful for cellc product team while launching of new product by
examining the data and customer patterns and submitting the feedback to cellc product team, so I

think with this personalised experience cellc is continuing their project with tcs.

With a continuous support ongoing with cell-c from past 9 years tcs would have made profit of

40 million rands till now, tcs has made this much profit of this project because they are

outsourcing the services from India so in India salaries for employees are low when compared to

others so tcs shows that they are paying huge money for employee resources to cellc but gives

only small amount to employees so by this tcs are making more profits in their project with cellc.

DIGITAL POSTAL SERVICES

Project name: Core System Integrated project

Client: Indian postal services

Project Value: 1100 crore Indian rupees

Project duration – six years started in 2013

Project Leader: Debashis Ghosh

Completed Project

Members in project-initially it was 70 but now it is 200

Indian postal services are traditional network in 2012 but they want to digitalise their networks

like other postal services in developed countries so they have collaborated with tcs in 2013 for

modernising their network and connected 1, 50,000 offices digitally and do lakhs of transactions

daily. Not only that training of employees to adapt to new changes and automation of data and hr

practises and enterprise resource planning are done online by tcs for Indian post. Tcs took this

project from Indian post because they want to deliver technology-led and service oriented
approach postal services to citizens of India and not only that they also want to help government

to deliver efficient services to citizens and hoping to get more projects from government.

This project is completed as tcs modernised end to end system of Indian post but that project

with Indian post is being extended to invent new schemes and maintain Indian post stay on e

governance. Indian post are satisfied with the work of tcs as they were able to modernise the

Indian post which was a purely traditional process and also they were having lakhs of offices in

India but tcs was able to deliver good services in spite of the complex process so Indian post has

extended their project for more services from tcs.

Tcs would have got approximately 200 crores of profit in csi project because as it is the

government project funds would have released at right time and as the work need to be done in

only India and as there is no need of outsourced services lot of money would have been saved by

tcs because they would have got less travelling charges and no visa charges are there and as they

are doing government project their reputation would be high.

DIGITAL TAX FILING SYSTEM

Project name: DIGITAL TAX FILING SYSTEM

Client: Directorate of income tax, government of India

Project Value: 193 crore Indian rupees

Project duration – six years started in 2013

Project Leader: samarjeet mahapathra

Completed Project

Members in project-90
Tcs took this project to help the tax payers and tax officials by providing online services in

mobile and desktop versions and to make easy for both of them and there is one other reason that

tcs took this projects because this is a government project and govt projects will have longterm

durations and tcs will get more chances in govt projects and as it is a tax related project citizens

will never stop paying taxes so this project will continue for a long term and help tcs in

sustainabile revenues.

The project of making it department online is completed but the support services are still going

on as we discussed earlier as it is a tax filing project and due to this corona lot of citizens are

opting for e filing.

Tcs has bagged a profit of 40 crores in this project because there is not much to invest in

infrastructure of the project it only needed to invest in their employees for their services but tcs

shows to clients that it is paying more amount to their employees and get money from clients but

pay less amount to clients and as it is a government project it is of long term and it constantly

generate revenues unlike private players.
