I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:
a. differentiate like radicals from unlike radicals;
b. perform addition and subtraction of radical expressions; and
c. think and solve on real-life word problems involving radicals.

C. LESSON PROPER
Ex. √ 4 + √ 9= √ 13
2 + 3 = √ 13
5 ≠ √ 13
Yes ma’am.
Illustrative Examples:
1. √ 2+ √ 2=( 1+1 ) √ 2=2 √ 2
2.
6 √ 8−2 √ 8=( 6−2 ) √ 8=4 √8=4 √ 4.2=4 ( 2 ) √2=8 √2
3.

illustrative
examples
Ok Very good.
2. x2-7x-18
Very good.
3. x2+x-6
Very good.
2. Using the form (x+__ ) (x+__), Fill this in with the two factors (Student B will
found in step 1. answer) Ma’am the
factor is (x-9)(x+2)
a. x2-3x-18
In this equation we have here the value of a=1 , b=-3 , and c=-18 Yes ma’am.
-18 and 1
18 and -1
-6 and 3
6 and -3
-9 and 2
9 and -2
So which of these Factors that the sum is -3, Since the value of our b is
-3?
Ok , Very good.
So now we have the -6 and 3. Now the factor of the given trinomial is
(x+3) (x-6).
b. x2+5x-6
In this equation we have here the value of a=1 , b=5 , and c=-6
6 and -1
-6 and 1
3 and -2
-3 and 2
So the factors that give the sum of b=5 are 6 and -1.
Yes ma’am.
1. 8x2-14x+3
We have to get the factor of the value of a and c and list them all
8=± 8 , ± 4 , ±2 , ±1
3=± 3 ,± 1
(8x+3)(x+1) 8x 3x 11x
(4x+3) 4x 6x 10x
(2x+1)
In the possible factors that give the middle term -14x are (4x-1)(2x-3).
2. 4x2-6x-10
4x2-6x-10=2(2x2-3x-5)
Since 2 do not have any factor other than 1 and 2, The factors of these
trinomial will have (2x+_)(x+_).
2 -1,5 (2x-1)(x+5) 9x
3 5,-1 (2x+5)(x-1) 3x
G. APPLICATION
Since you do not have any question and you said that you
understand our lesson. I will give a word problem and will
let the students answer by pair for 10 minutes. Then, the
teacher will ask for a volunteer for board work.
Leg Traction
To help align Adon’s broken bone, a doctor uses traction
as shown in the figure. Traction is applied by fixing a
weight, two pulleys and some stainless steel cable to a
broken leg. Based on the setup shown, how many meters
cable are used?
Are you done class?
Exchange paper with your seatmates and let’s solve it on the board.
Very Good !
Very good !
Yes ma’am.
Very good!
(Student D will
answer) Quadratic
trinomial is a second
degree polynomial
with three terms .
(Student E will
answer)Find two
factors of c whose
sum equals the
coefficient b.
(Student F will
answer) Using the
form (x+__ ) (x+__),
Fill this in with the
two factors found in
step 1.
1.) (Students
will be
answer)
Factor out
any common
monomial
Ok. Very good Class. factor
2.) List all
Here are some real life situation where you can apply our lesson. factors of a
and c
I. Dividing something equally ( For example, we divide the 12 3.) Try and
cut pizza in to 3 persons. In this example we can say that 3 is a check
factor of 12. So if we divide 3 to 12 we can get 4. So the factor combination
of 12 are 3 and 4) s of the
factors of a
Now can you give me an example wherein we can apply this Factoring
and c until
of Quadratic Trinomial in real life?
