Use the player in a stable and horizontal position, ang in a place tree trom vibration. 2. Use the player as far away trom the speakers es possible and isolate the player from the sound radiating from them. This player is equipped with acoustic Insulators but if the speakers are placed too near the player, vibrations may be transmitted directly tothe tonearm, resulting in "HOWL ING” or "FEED-BACK’ I¥for any reason, tne speakers are placed near the unit, we recommend that you place felt under the speaker ortho urit to reduce the sound vibrations. 3. Do not place the player where itis exposed to direct sun, dust oF moisture, [Also keep it away from heating equipment in order to pro- tect the cust cover and cabinet. © Connect the AC power plug. Caution Connect the AC power plug to the AG socket. ‘Make sure that the AC line voltage corresponds to the turn- table's requirements before connecting the AC power plug. Never connect to a OG power socket. Ht your local voltage is diferent, turn the AC tine voltage ‘selector with a screwdriver to your local voltage. To adjust lor a different cartridge, push down manually on the arm lift bar to expose the adjustment screw, and turn the screw clockwise (to lower the arm) or counterclockwise (lo raise the arm) until the arm li height Measures about 10 mm (25/64"). (See Figs. 11 and 12) Maintenance © Koop the stylus and your records clean, It the stylus is not kept clean, it will not contact the record Groove properly, nor track perfectly, resulting in sound de- terioration as well as damage to both the record and the stylus tip. Be especially careful to clean away all dust and dirt from the stylus tip with a soft brush er blower, 00 NOT USE YOUR FINGER YOU MAY DAMAGE THE STYLUS, We recommend hhaving your stylus checked periodically by your HiFi Dealer Remember, a wor or damaged stylus can permanently damage your record collection Contrepoids a’ équilibrage| il-skatng knob Steliknopt fir Antiskating Bouton de réglage ‘du cispositt “ani-skating” Dwarsarukcompensatic-kn Antiskaling Kontll ae ever st et isms. Being caretul not to touch the stylus tip, push the new one into the opening of the cartridge as far as it will go. (See Fig. 13) Note: The stylus lite is approximately 500 hours, so the siylus ‘should be replaced at or before that time. ‘A worn stylus tip will cause noise and damage your records. Use the genuine replacement stylus only. (EPS-270ED) © Wipe the dust cover and arm base with a soft, dry cloth. Never use any cleaners containing alcohol, benzine or solvent. To remove stubborn finger prints or grease spots, first ois connect the AC power plug and then use a soft cloth dampen- ed with a mild soap and water solution {© The precision F.G. motor used in this player does not ns lubrication. (See Fig. 14) When reinstalling the turntable platter, lower it over the turn- shaft and then put the belt onto the capstan, Be careful not to lot oil or grease contact the belt. HW grease inadvertently contacts the belt, disconnect the AC ower cord and wipe the belt clean with alcohol. © Before detaching or attaching the head shell, be sure to turn the volume control for the amplifier to "0" position, or to turn off the power for the amplifier. Detaching or attaching of the head shell, with the volume contro! turned high, may not only result in Unpleasant noises, ‘but cause damage to the speakers. @ Clamp the tonearm with the arm clamp when not using the turntabie. Use the stylus cover to protect the stylus tip from damage. © The power switch of this set is connected in the secondary Circuit, and therefore when you leave it for a longer period, be sure to unplug the AC plug tram mains Naaldhouder Nathallaro Motor power consumption is only 0.5 W and total player power ‘consumption is 2 W. (Conventional AC phono motors typi ‘consume 10 to 20 W.) ‘This new motor design, coupled with belt drive, enabled Technics enginoers to develop a reasonably priced automatic return player with many of the high-pertormance ‘specs of our direct drive line, such as high starting torque, low power consumption and extremely good Wow, Flutter ‘and Rumble figures. © Speed is independent of power line frequency ‘Since this player uses a OC motor and the FG. SERVO SYS- TEM, the turntable speed Is independent of power line frequency vatiations, © Nowly-designed acoustic insulators To prevent vibrations from reaching the platter and tonearm, ‘acoustic insulators composed of springs and high viscosity damping material are used. © Viscous damped cueing device This device is viscous-dampad so that you can lower the tone- ‘arm slowly on the record. This protects the stylus tip from damage. Bolt ‘Aalriebsr Courroie Rem Drivrem capstan Antriebswelle Cabestan Dri K © Anti-skating force control No threads or weights, simply turn the knob to correspond with the tracking force setting, to obtain perfect compensa- tion of tonearm side-thrust (anti-skating) © Electronic speed change Many bell-drive designs use a stepped capstan pulley and lever arrangement to change the speed. The Technics F.G.Servo Motor design allows for eazy electronic speed change, eliminating a possible source of mechanical trouble. ‘© Low capacitance phono cables To avoid high frequency loss, low capacitance phono cables fare used. Ideal for later conversion to CD-4. Operating Principles of F-G-Servo Motor (Fig. 15) ‘A Frequency Generator is mechanically coupled to the motor shaft. Its output is in direct proportion to motor speed. The signal produced by the Frequency Generator is amplified land converte to a square wave by the pulse shaper circuit The square wave is then converted into a trigger pulse. [A square wave of fixed amplitude (ES) and width (TS) is generat fed using the trigger pulse to determine the square wave tre- ‘quency. Therefore, this square wave has a frequency (T) which is directly related to the speed of the motor. An Integrated circuit converts this square wave into a ramp wave which is used as the motor control voitage (E1. I! the motor speed Is t00 fast, the oulput of the Frequency Generator will be higher than normal causing a deorease in the poriod (T) of the square wave signal, This results in an increase in the motor control voltage (Ei). Thus the motor control voltage (Ei) is also in direct proportion to the motor speed. In the voltage comparator stage, the motor control voltage (EI) is compared with the reference control voltage (Es/n) which is supplied from the reterence veltage supply and divider circuits. The output of the comparator (Ee) Is the actual motor control voltage which will adjust the motor speed based on the signal ‘supplied by the Frequency Generator. {A phase compensator is used to feed back the AC component of the motor drive voltage to the voltage comparator. to improve speed stability Speed selection ‘The two playing speeds are selected by varying the square wave pulse width (Ts) with two variable resistors.
