"Foreign Tourists View Moscow as Europe’s Most

Unfriendly City"

TripAdvisor, an international traveling portal, published results of the poll held among 1,400
tourists from all over the world. The poll showed Moscow as one of the most unfriendly cities in
Europe. Moscow, as a European capital, received only one “award” in the poll, whereas capitals of
Great Britain, France and Italy appear in several lists at once. London, Paris and Rome gained the
largest amount of both positive and negative reviews.

London, as travelers believe, is the most expensive city in Europe with richest nightlife and best
parks. The city was also named the dirtiest European capital. It is worthy of note that London took
the second place on the list of unfriendly cities. The British capital comes third on the list of cities
with friendly population.

Paris preserved its reputation of the most romantic capital of Europe. In addition, it left its rivals
behind as the city of best cuisine, took the second position on its parks and the attractiveness of
residents, and came third on nightlife opportunities. At the same time, Paris takes the lead as the
city with ill-disposed population. In addition, it takes second places on the lists of Europe’s most
expensive and dirtiest cities.

Rome charms tourists from all over world with its local residents first and foremost. As far as other
nominations are concerned, Rome took the second place for its cuisine and the third place for its
romantic atmosphere and shopping opportunities. However, tourists criticized the Italian capital for
its high prices and pollution.

The list presented by the above-mentioned portal closes with “boring” cities – Brussels, Zurich and
Warsaw. Zurich was named the cleanest city of Europe.

Amsterdam , Barcelona, Budapest, Venice, Dublin, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Prague, Stockholm and
Florence received mostly positive reviews from many of the polled tourists. Prague, the capital of
the Czech Republic, won the title of Europe’s cheapest capital.

It is worthy of note that Moscow has already appeared on the top 20 list of world’s dirtiest cities
before. The list was drawn by Mercer Human Resource Consulting, a British research company. The
company placed the Russian capital on the 14th place on the list.

Russian traveling agencies say that the number of foreign tourists visiting Moscow has been
declining steadily. The number dropped by 10 percent in 2007. The largest number of visits to
Moscow was registered in the beginning of the 1990s. Foreigners’ interest in the Russian capital
started to decline since then. It probably happens because of the service level, high living costs and
the lack of new tourist products. As a rule, foreign tourists see one and the same places of interest
during the recent 70 years.
