Definition

Power supply is a hardware component that provides electricity

to power computers and other devices. It converts the electric

current drawn from a power source, such as a wall outlet,

battery or generator, to the correct format and passes it to the

device. It also regulates the voltage passed to the engine to

prevent overheating. Power supply is sometimes abbreviated as

PS or P/S, PSU.

These designs are rated in terms of the number of watts they

produce. The more powerful a computer is, the more watts it can

deliver to components

1
FUNCTION

A power supply is an electronic circuit designed to perform

the function of supplying electrical power to one or more

electronic devices.

As for other functions

1. Raise voltage or lower voltage , with action

transformer , to voltage AC line needed .

2. Provide a number of method distribution voltage for

Fulfill needs equipment .

3. Change ac voltage to be pulsed dc voltage with

rectifier half wave or wave full .

4. Pulsed dc voltage filter to voltage pure dc stable

for use equipment .

5. Set the power supply output automatically

proportional with applied load _

2
TYPE
1. AC power supply

AC or current back and forth no have polarity . Polarity changed

to time in accordance with the frequency . In ps ac, size and
direction the current also changes along time .

Use of ac power supply with voltage frequency standard

especially used for operate equipment electricity such as
electric motors , fans wind , air conditioner , pump , refrigerator ,
etc.

2. DC power supply

power _ supply dc has _ polarity fixed . In ps dc, magnitude and

direction current no changed to time . Dc no have usic power and
not there is frequency .

Source : source ps dc is batteries , solar panels , etc. Besides

that , we could convert ac to dc using Suite rectifier .

Application : circuits and devices electronics most use ps dc like

usicer , printer, television , player usic , etc. _

3. High voltage power suplly

High voltage power supply high voltage power supply is a power

supply that can produce voltage tall until hundreds even thousands of
volts. High voltage power supply usually used in x-ray machines or the
necessary tools voltage high .

3
PROCEDURE
THE POWER SUPPLY IS ABLE TO CHANGE THE DIRECT CURRENT VOLTAGE

TO ALTERNATING OR AS NEEDED. (SOURCE: TEKNIC) THE POWER SUPPLY

GENERATES VOLTAGE AND CONVERTS IT INTO DC POWER. THIS PROCESS

SENDS AN IRREGULAR OR UNSTABLE VOLTAGE RESULTING FROM THE

POWER SUPPLY
