Self-reflection on the course Community Project

From this community project, I took pleasure in how much I learned a lot of things. I
know the importance of learning community project. Besides, I know that running an event is
not easy and team members need to have a team spirit in order to successfully complete the
event. I have learned how to build trusting relationships between the group members. I learned
a lot from my team members, how to distribute work and get work done together. I loved
spending time with the members of the group doing activities together.

USSDC

On 14th to 18th February 2022, I attended the activity which was organized by the UTAR
Library. This is an online library information skills programme: Part 1: Searching Strategies
and Techniques. Nowadays, with the development of network technology and the popularity
of the Internet, the massive amount of information is dazzling. This workshop is designed for
college students, because most of the college assignments need to refer to the content of the
journal or article to collect information that matches the topic. It teaches us how to search for
a needle in a haystack in the online world to find suitable information to complete a research
project. During the process, the lecturer carefully explained and shared the tips for finding
information with us and demonstrated the operation steps in person. In addition, he also
provides websites, methods, techniques, etc. to find information. After finding information
from google scholars, UTAR Library, ScienceDirect, etc., how to more efficiently screen
journals or articles that match the topic. For example, in Year 3 Sem1, I will do the FYP 1
research project and I can apply what I have learned. In addition, our team decided to sell
handmade candles in this project, and we each looked for manufacturers in our own way.
Luckily, I looked up keywords on Facebook and saw a photo of my cousin's post about the
handmade market. Thus, effective search allows us to save a lot of time and complete things
more efficiently.

On 17th March 2022, I participated the USSDC Programme was “Online Art and Craft
Workshop: Creative of Paper Fan” which was conducted by Ms Hee, Ms Lee and others on
date. The reason why I will participate in this activity is because I am interested in crafting. I
have little exposure to crafts since I graduated from secondary school, when I saw an online
art and craft workshop by DSSC UTAR Sungai Long Campus on Facebook, I immediately
signed up. The day before the workshop, the person in charge reminded us to prepare materials
such as coloured paper, scissors, paste, etc. These materials are easy to obtain in life. At the
beginning of the workshop, the teacher first introduced us to the process of making a Creative
of Paper Fan. Since I haven't been in touch with handicraft for a long time, it's a bit clumsy to
do, and I'm a little worried about not being able to keep up with the rhythm of participating in
an online workshop of crafting for the first time. Fortunately, Ms Hee and Ms Lee patiently
explained each step during the process, and they would occasionally ask about our progress.
After this art and design workshop brought me some different experiences and surprises such
as simple materials that can be turned into something fun and interesting with just a little
imagination. At the same time, it also adds a little fun to my boring life. I can put aside busy
assignments and schoolwork for a while and enjoy this activity. The sense of accomplishment
when completing the craft is high.

Self-reflection on the organized event

Our group had conducted a workshop on 20 March 2022. Our event is a workshop to teach
how to setting up Facebook page. I had learned how to prepare a workshop and the steps to
conduct a workshop. Before the workshop, we definite the goals. Our goals are to let
participants know how to setting up Facebook page. We decide who will attend. We also need
to have many times of rehearsal so that the event can run smoothly. During this workshop, I
have learned a lot of new knowledge that is really helpful in my life. First and foremost, I have
learnt that time management is really crucial, since we took far longer than expected to
complete the picture shoot. This tells me that I should always allocate my time properly to the
most important tasks and plan ahead of time to avoid wasting time. Aside from that, I realised
that we can't do the jobs without each other's help. It is critical because effective collaboration
may speed up the work process and reduce the amount of time spent on unneeded charges. It
also enhances my connection with my friends since we learn to respect one another.
Furthermore, in order to improve job productivity, we need communicate more during the
workday.
Conclusion

In conclusion, I have gained a lot of extra knowledge that I cannot get from the textbook. The
knowledge and experience I gained is priceless and precious. I hope that the knowledge I have
learnt will help me in my future. I have a great experience from this workshop, I would
definitely join more community programmes in the future. And also give me a chance to get to
know each other and have such a memorable semester in our university life.
