 Explain how the elements specific to a genre contribute to the theme of a particular literary selection.

IV.PROCEDURES

Priming/Review (Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson/ Establishing a purpose for the lesson)

 The class will play a game called “Deal or No Deal?” The selected student will be given a chance to choose an
envelope with numbers from 1 – 4 and decide whether to take the prize inside that box or the offer given by the
teacher.

Activity (Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson)

 “CROWN THE PRINCE” - The students will attach the crown with words to their respective definitions; that’s
carried by the prince.

Example:

2. Neglect – To fail to give the proper care or attention.

3. Burrow – A hole dug as a living space by small animals.

4. Sigh – To take a deep audible breath.

5. Rite – A ceremonial act.

Antoine de Saint – Exupery (1900 – 1944) was a French writer and aviator. He was born in Lyon and studied at the
University of Fribourg. He joined the Air Force in 1921 and became a commercial pilot in1926. His popular children’s book
“The Little Prince” (1943: Translated 1943) is also read by adults for its allegorical meaning.

 The students shall arrange the order of events in the story.

 The little prince wants to become friends with the fox, but the fox said he is not tamed.
 The little prince is willing to tame the fox.
 The fox instructed the little prince about the “rite” that he must perform.
 The fox cried when the little prince left.
 Once a person tames something, it becomes special.

Task: Dissecting the Text

1. Who are the characters in the excerpt? Describe each.


2. How important is the “rite” or “ritual” of taming in the friendship of the Little Prince and the Fox?
3. What is the meaning of friendship? How is making friends essential?
4. Is perseverance a good quality? Explain why or why not.
5. “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is invisible to the eye.” How will you interpret this line?

 Do you know Doraemon and Novita? Describe their relationship.

Application (Evaluating Learning)

 The students shall be grouped into five. Each group will be given a specific task to work on.

GROUP 1 – Create a greeting card with a message promoting the value of friendship.

GROUP 2 – Make a letter for people who neglect the important persons in their lives, example, their parents, siblings or
friends.

GROUP 3- Write a song about the Little Prince Travel and sing it in front of the class.

GROUP 4- Your group is a part of the Student Government and the Little Prince is your president. Design a school program
that would foster friendship and camaraderie.

 The task shall be evaluated by the students using the following rubric:
