Oyster3G Technology Award-winning femtocell technology, ready to integrate

Oyster 3G is ip.access core femtocell technology, powering the largest femtocell deployments in the world.
System integrators use it as the essential components for an end-to-end femtocell solution for mobile operators. OEMs use it to integrate a femtocell into home gateways, set-top boxes and other home devices. Oyster 3G technology delivers high-quality 3G spectrum into the home, using the customers broadband for backhaul while freeing up capacity in the macro network, improving service for everyone in the cell.

Proven in the worlds largest deployment

Weve led the field in femtocell technology from the very beginning and have solved the toughest challenges everything from radio resource management algorithms to handover, access control and zero-touch provisioning. Oyster 3G technology is used (as part of a Cisco solution) in the worlds largest femtocell deployment the AT&T 3G MicroCell in the US and is behind nano3G, our own end-to-end solution for business customers and public access. Based on picoChip silicon our Oyster 3G femtocell technology delivers the advanced features you need and is software upgradeable in the field.

Oyster 3G Advanced features

Advanced Radio Resource Management to optimise performance and user experience. Support for Closed Access for home use, or Open Access for public spaces. Standards-based for easy core network and management integration. Bandwidth efcient meeting 3GPP R9 specications, using multiplexing over a standard IPsec tunnel on the IP link. Efcient packet scheduling maximises HSPA data rates in active mode. Carrier-class management including alarms, fault & performance monitoring and rich KPI reporting. Ability to support two-way handover even for residential deployments. Efcient access control to reduce signalling load and optimise user experience. Optimised for iPhones, BlackBerry devices and other smartphones based on extensive, real-world testing. Backed by world-class expert services to ensure your solution is a success. The Oyster 3G hardware reference design is ideal for a standalone unit with an Ethernet interface to the users broadband connection, and can also be embedded into other residential gateway products (e.g. ADSL or Cable modem products and WiFi routers).

The components
Oyster 3G technology is not only for femtocell access points. ip.access can also provide other components and services needed to create a 3G femtocell access network: Access Point (AP) software for the femtocell plus a hardware reference design Access Controller (AC) the Femto Gateway that handles and routes all trafc between the APs and your core network. Element Management System (EMS) manages the controller and all Access Points with full reporting, alerting and KPIs. Expert Services including integration consulting, solution & business design, network planning, deployment, operations, maintenance and training. Oyster 3G gets you to a complete femtocell solution faster, at lower cost and with reliability and carrier-class quality you can depend on.

Standards-based
Oyster 3G is based on 3GPPs Iuh femtocell standard, making it easy to integrate with any standards compliant third-party Femto Gateway (Access Controller). When deployed with the Oyster 3G Access Controller, the system supports extensions to the Iuh standard to deliver the advanced features required in todays mobile networks. The Oyster 3G Access Controller provides an Iu interface for standards-based integration to any 3GPP core network. Oyster 3G has won numerous awards, including the 2007 GSM Association Award for Best Radio Access Product.
