Enhancing Security Guard Engagement

The document summarizes the empathy, define, ideate, and prototype phases of a design thinking project conducted by Design Thinking Group #1. In the empathy phase, the group identified their user as security guards at FEU Institute of Arts and conducted interviews to understand their experiences and frustrations. In the define phase, they crafted point-of-view statements for one guard named John Lloyd. In the ideate phase, they generated ideas to address John's boredom from long downtime at work, including the concept of an app that gamifies his job duties. They prototyped one such app called "aero" for testing.

Define Phase

POV Statements:

1. John Lloyd, a security guard who works 14 hours a day needs a way to be entertained or learn
while on the job because he has lots of down time that he feels is wasted away, leaving him
bored and feeling stagnant in life.
2. John Lloyd, a dedicated security guard with strong values and work ethic, needs a way to feel
appreciated, recognized, and supported at work, because the students and institution don’t
always see him as “part of the family” and he feels his management, who cut him off wifi, can
act paternalistic.
3. John Lloyd, a hard-working security guard and father of two needs a way to spend more quality
time with his children because they are the center of his world but the fact that he works two
jobs to support them means he finds little time to actually be with them
4. John Lloyd, a hard-working security guard and father of two needs a way to share the
importance of two of his core values, dignity and respect, with his children because he feels a
lack of self-worth when people do not give him this, which happens often during his job.
5. John Lloyd, a dedicated family man who cares a lot about the people he loves needs a way to
share his appreciation for his sister because he is very grateful for her thoughtfulness and care
for him, but fears he has sent the wrong message by losing the gifts she has given him
