ASSIGNMENT 1 SKEE 4443 POWER SYSTEM ANALYSIS

PER UNIT

Q1
Figure Q1 shows a single line diagram of a power system and the associated data of this system
are given in Table Q1. The per unit values are based on respective component’s ratings. The load
at transformer T3 absorbs 65 MW, 0.85 lagging power factor, operating at 10.45 kV.
(i) Using base of 100 MVA and 22 kV at generator G1, construct an impedance diagram
including the load impedance with all per unit values shown.

(ii) If generator G2 is disconnected by opening CB2, calculate the voltage at Bus 1.

Figure Q1

Table Q1
Device Capacity(MVA) Voltage (kV) X (pu) X (Ω)
Generator G1 100 22 0.18
Generator G2 80 22 0.15
Transformer T1 100 22/132 0.1
Transformer T2 80 132/22 0.1
Transformer T3 90 132/11 0.12
Line 1-2 40
Line 1-3 20
Line 2-3 20

Q2
Figure Q2 shows a single line diagram of a power system and the associated data of this system
are given in Table Q2.
(a) Using base of 100 MVA and 11 kV at generator G1, draw an impedance diagram with all
per unit values shown.

(b) If Line 1 is disconnected, and the motor is operating at 6 kV, 85% full load, and 0.8 lagging
power factor, what is the voltage at Bus 1
