REFLECTION PAPER #2
(Early Childhood and Middle Childhood)

Through the stages, we gain more skill, a larger and deeper depth of knowledge, enhanced
wisdom and effectiveness in our immediate environment and in the world, as well as a more
diversified sense of perspective. A better understanding of human development may assist in the
understanding of one's own life events and trajectory. Increasing one's self-awareness and making
personal improvement are two benefits that might result from it. Beneficial societal change is
possible, and individuals and groups may have an impact on the betterment of social structures
and policies by advocating for them. Maturity preparation would also help the children in viewing
the world as a safe and free environment.

For this day, Early Childhood and Middle Childhood are the following topics that
provided us with more knowledge with regards to how a brain develops overtime as a kid grows
up. According to the group presenters, early childhood is the period of development that is very
crucial in terms of learning and engaging to the environment. In this age, learning was introduced,
also enhancing the brain skills and senses are present in this period. Early Childhood, also known
as nursery education, as defined by UNESCO, refers to a child's social, emotional, cognitive, and
physical needs are addressed via early childhood care and education (ECCE), which aims to
provide a solid foundation for learning and happiness for the rest of a child's life. Based on my
understanding, early child development in the early years lays the groundwork for lifetime
learning, behavior, and health. Early childhood experiences influence the brain and a child's
potential to learn, interact with others, and cope with everyday stressors and obstacles.

As such, the frontal lobes, in particular, expand rapidly in size during this period of brain
development throughout middle childhood. If a child's frontal lobes get larger and more capable,
they can execute more complex cognitive activities, such organizing a sequence of tasks in an
efficient manner. 6-12 years of age are the most appropriate age for this development stage. It had
occurred to me that the brain reaches its adult size at about age 7, however, it is not fully developed

at the age 7. It is just amazing to think that our brain or mind works at a very mysterious way. For
me, it is good that there would be guidance of a family, parents, and teachers at all time. They must
be able to help the children distinguish write from wrong. In every stages of development, there’s
this what we call “brain development needs.” For the middle childhood, a child’s fundamental
brain development to continue to flourish, since this is a critical part of a child’s existence. I have
also learned that, aside from love, encouragement, and support, a child must also have a regular
physical exercise and protein at this stage because this is just one of the many factors that would
help their brain enhance its further development.

To sum everything up, the researchers determined that two years of preschool not only
cognitively fed the youngsters, but also instilled in them social skills, bravery, and tenacity. This
combination of character strength, dubbed Grit, subsequently proved to be important in their
success in life. Furthermore, social context and education also have an effect on the process of
growing a child's brain at each period, since the assistance received from inside has a significant
influence on the children's learning process. It is essential that parents watch out for their kids in
order to prevent future misunderstandings. Finally, intellectually, when children go through
Piaget's Concrete Operational stage of development and learn a number of cognitive processes
connected with that stage, their thinking abilities grow and alter.
