Beginning English for Security Personnel

Meeting and greeting the public. (Who – How – Where)

In English we do not use Du/Sie. But we have other ways of showing politeness to
members of the public. Using Sir and Ma'am is one way to show politeness, it is the
same as using the German “Sie.”

Another way to be polite is to use the word “Yes” instead of “Yeah” (which sounds
like “Ja” in German).

Good morning/day/afternoon/evening. Guten Morgen/Tag/Tag/Abend.

How are you? (Often used by English Wie geht es ihnen?

answer is “Fine, thank you.”)
