MGA TULANG GINAWA NI RIZAL
1. MY FIRST INSPIRATION (MI PRIMERA INSPIRACION)
Most likely was the first poem Jose Rizal had written during
his stint at Ateneo.
3. KUNDIMAN
The word “kundiman” connotes a traditional Filipino love song usually used by a man to serenade a
woman being wooed.
Rizal’s “Kundiman” was a poem expressing his intense love for his motherland.
In the verses, we can see that Rizal is optimistic that the Philippines would be freed from inequality
and oppression.
4. IN MEMORY OF MY TOWN
(UN RECUERDO A MI PUEBBLO)
A sonnet written by Dr. Jose Rizal during his stay in Ateneo Municipal
de Manila on December 3, 1876 when he was about 15 years old.
It is written as a contemplation of the Virgin Mary
9. Song of Maria Clara
(Canto Patriotico de Maria Clara)
It is the most well-known of all the songs based on Dr. Jose Rizal's
poems from his book Noli Me Tangere.
The poem was sung by Maria Clara in the novel, earning it the title
"the Song of Maria Clara."
It conveys Dr. Jose Rizal’s love for his native country, the Philippines.
The last stanza reveals the premonition which Rizal had of impending
doom.
10. To the Philippine Youth
(A La Juventud Filipina)
It was first presented in 1879 in Manila when Dr. Jose Rizal submitted
it for a poetry contest organized by an association of art lovers in
Manila called Liceo Artistico-Literario de Manila (also known as
Manila Lyceum of Art and Literature). He won the first prize which
consisted of a diploma and a silver pen.
WIKANG FILIPINO
13. To Josephine
A poem dedicated to his wife, Josephine
Bracken.
It was hidden in an alcohol stove which was given to his sister, Narcisa.
It was published by his close friend, Mariano Ponce, in Hong Kong under the
title "Mi Ultimo Pensamiento," which translates to "my last thought."
Through this poem, Rizal delivered his final message to his countrymen and
family.
