MGA TULANG GINAWA NI RIZAL
1. MY FIRST INSPIRATION (MI PRIMERA INSPIRACION)

Most likely was the first poem Jose Rizal had written during
his stint at Ateneo.

He wrote the poem in 1874, before he turned 14.

He was delighted to see his mother, Doña Teodora Alonso,

released from prison that same year so he dedicated the
poem to her.

This poem was also written in honor of his mother’s birthday

Jose Rizal’s poetic verses show his eternal love and

appreciation for his mother.
2. TO THE PHILIPPINES
This very nationalistic poem was written by Jose Rizal
to serve as a reminder for Filipinos to love their
motherland.

It is about the Philippines being compared as beautiful

as a woman lover

The word “kundiman” connotes a traditional Filipino love song usually used by a man to serenade a
woman being wooed.
Rizal’s “Kundiman” was a poem expressing his intense love for his motherland.
In the verses, we can see that Rizal is optimistic that the Philippines would be freed from inequality
and oppression.
4. IN MEMORY OF MY TOWN
(UN RECUERDO A MI PUEBBLO)

In 1876, Rizal as a 15-year old student in the

the hardships of Lipeños (people from Lipa).

The hymn was a poem praising Lipeños, who were working

hard for the country.

The poem is composed of conversations by men, women and

children in praise of men who made a living in agriculture.

The song also states that agriculture is the solution to poverty

and the road to progress.

It is the most well-known of all the songs based on Dr. Jose Rizal's
poems from his book Noli Me Tangere.

The last stanza reveals the premonition which Rizal had of impending
doom.

it for a poetry contest organized by an association of art lovers in
Manila called Liceo Artistico-Literario de Manila (also known as
Manila Lyceum of Art and Literature). He won the first prize which
consisted of a diploma and a silver pen.

A poem dedicated to the Filipino youth

It is considered as Rizal’s first testimony and presentation of his

nationalism

It expresses the value of young people and their capacity to

influence the course of our Motherland's future. Despite the chaos
that existed at the time of Dr. Jose Rizal's writing, he also expresses
optimism
11. Education Gives Luster to the Motherland
(Por la Educación Recibe Lustre la Patria)

It was written when Dr. Jose Rizal was a 15-year-old

student at the Ateneo Municipal of Manila in 1876.

The Jesuits had a significant impact on Rizal's life, and

as a result, he developed a strong belief in the value
of education and in how it may benefit the entire
country.

and succeed in education in order to bring honor to
