2.18 CONNECTION BETWEEN PIPING WITH DIFFERENT MATERIAL AND

COATING

For connection Ductile Iron pipeline to other pipeline of different material, consideration shall be
taken for force balancing/anchoring, thermal expansion/contraction absorption, galvanic corrosion
prevention and proper selection of the required type of joints. For connection between cement lined
pipeline and epoxy internally coated pipeline, flanged connection shall be used with consideration to
ensure smooth transition between the internal lining/coating.
Connection between Ductile Iron (DI) pipeline and other metallic pipeline such as (Carbon Steel (CS)
and stainless steel) shall be by flanged connection inside valve/equipment chambers or above ground.
In case there is no valve/equipment chambers in vicinity of the pipeline connection and subject to
OWNER/ENGINEER approval, buried stepped couplings of proven design may be used.
Connection between Ductile Iron (DI) pipeline and other non-metallic pipeline such as (HDPE, GRE,
GRP, etc.) shall be by buried flanged connection or buried couplings of proven design.

2.19 Section 11.1 General

The maximum length under test more than 1000 m is allowed subject to complying with other
required criteria and OWNER/Engineer approval. However, the pipeline section under single test
shall not exceed the length between two consecutive line isolation valves.
The CONTRACTOR shall supply all necessary temporary restraining equipment and thrust blocks
during the pressure test. The CONTRACTOR may utilize the valve chambers as a restraining system
based on site condition and subject to OWNER/ENGINEER approval.

The System test pressure (STP) for the constructed D.I. pipeline shall be calculated from the Maximum Design
pressure (MDP) as follows in accordance with EN 805:

• If surge is calculated

STP = MDPc + 1 bar

• If surge is not calculated

STP = MDPa x 1.5 or

Whichever is the least
STP = MDPa + 5 bar

Where:

MDPa is MDP when there is a fixed allowance for surge not less than 2 bar

MDPc is MDP when the surge is calculated
