Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital
350 N Wilmot Rd
Tucson, AZ 85711
Dear Hiring Committee,
After completing my obstetrics clinical rotation at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a nursing
student, I knew immediately that I would be applying for a RN Labor and Delivery Full-Time
position on the unit that I fell in love with. Throughout my clinical rotations at the bedside, I
learned the importance of compassionate and culturally sensitive care and have integrated this
within my own practice. Additionally, my experiences of balancing my academic life, personal
life, and work life, coupled with my high level of self-motivation, have instilled valuable time
management and prioritization skills. I believe my commitment to providing compassionate care
to all and my desire to continually grow and learn makes me the best fit for this position.
In December of 2022, I will be graduating with Highest Academic Distinction from the
University of Arizona with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing. During my time in the BSN
program, I completed more than 1,000 clinical and lab hours, 75 of which were obstetric clinical
hours. During this time, I gained the valuable skills of assessing patients, planning, and
implementing necessary interventions, and evaluating patient outcomes. During my obstetric
rotation I implemented my knowledge of electronic fetal monitoring, monitored, and assisted
laboring mothers, and communicated with the interdisciplinary team. Not only am I proficient in
a variety of skills such as foley insertion, IV insertion, medication administration, and head-to-
toe assessments, but I also strive to uphold an empathetic and kind-hearted character.
I am currently employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a Student Nurse Intern in the
Observation unit. Over the past 9 months in this position, I have cared for patients from many
different backgrounds with varying diagnoses. My experiences at St. Joseph’s Hospital have
shaped my own nursing philosophy and impacted the nurse I strive to be. It is my heart for
people, desire to be a beacon of positivity, and dedication to my work that will make me a value
asset to St. Joseph’s Labor & Delivery team.
I understand that labor can be an emotional time for many families. I would be honored
to be one of the people to comfort and care for new mothers and their babies at St. Joseph’s
Hospital. I appreciate your time and consideration of my application for a RN Labor & Delivery
Full-Time position. Please reach out to me at (520) 878-7818 for any additional information. I
look forward to hearing back from you.
Sincerely,
Mariah Vasquez-Gilvin
