LESSON 1 + 2: WORDS + GRAMMAR (PAGE 8 - 9)
I/ Objectives:
At the end of lesson, ss will be able:
• To identify restaurant vocabulary
• To understand a short story
• To revise the present simple and present continuous and when they can be used
• To complete a text with the correct form of the present simple and present continuous
• To act out a story
II/ Procedures: (90 mins)

1/ Warm-up

Ask further questions: What do you often do at…?
2/ Lesson 1: Lead-in:
Words - Discussion questions:
Ask ss question: Do you often go to a restaurant? What do you often eat at the
restaurant? What can you see at the restaurant?
Presentation:
- Showing each picture card and ask ss what can they see
- Ask ss further question about each flashcard to consolidate new words
- Model the ones that ss don't know and practise (say all the words and repeat)
Controlled activites
Listen, point and repeat
- Ask ss to open their class books and look at the pictures and words
- Play the recording for ss to listen, point to the appropriate picture.
- Play audio again and ss repeat
- Ask individual ss to say the words for the class.
Guided actitivies
- Quiz: Teacher describe each word at a time and have ss guess it (Ex: This person
helps you order the food)
- Activity: Ask ss to pratice making sentences with the words given.
Pre- teach a story
Story Lead in: Discover the picture
- Focus students' attention on the story
- Talk about each frame with the class and ask ss questions: Who are the children?
Are they at home? Where are they?
- Encourage their predictions about the story
Teach the story
- Ask ss to listen and check the information (ask ss to listen and follow the story)

- Have ss listen again and underline the new words and teacher explains them
- Let ss practice reading story as roles (a group of four: Holly, Max, Dad, the
waiter)
- Decide the actions for the story
- Play the recording a second time for ss to mime the actions as they listen and say
their character's lines
- Have ss practice acting out the story in groups then ask one or two groups to act
out the story at the front
Post teach:
- Check understanding: Ask ss some comprehension questions to check ss if they
can understand the story clearly
- Ask questions: Where are they? Who is wearing a green uniform? What does Dad
want to eat? What colour uniform do the the waiters usually wear? What does
Dad want to eat? What's the restaurant called?
- Further activities: Discussion: Do you like the story? What can you learn from the
story? Ask questions about themselves: Which is your favourite restaurant? What
is special about the restaurant? Do waiters have uniforms? ….

3. Lesson 2: Lead in: The present continuous
Grammar + Ask ss to do different activities
+ Ask each ss to describe what the friend sitting next to them is doing
Presentation:
- Ask ss to open their book. Focus ss on the Let's learn!box and ask ss to read out
the example sentences in the grammar boxes. Ask ss to identify which sentences
in the boxes are present simple and which are present continuous.
- Ask ss when we use the two tenses
- Ask a ss to read the speech bubble for the class
- Ask a ss to read the speech bubble for the class
- Elicit more examples

- Ask Ss to do the excercise 3, 4 (Explain the model, check answers, give
feedback).
- Have ss practice with exercises in handouts
