Resultant of Non-Concurrent, Non-Parallel coplanar forces system

The system of non-concurrent , non-parallel coplanar can be replaced by a resultant

force R acting at a distance d from any selected point

By using the principles of resolution composition & moment, it is possible to determine

Analytically the resultant for coplanar non-concurrent system of forces as follows:

1. Resolve each forces into X and Y directions

2. Compute 𝑅𝑥 = ∑ 𝐹𝑥

3. Compute 𝑅𝑦 = ∑𝐹𝑦 ,
𝑅𝑦
4. Compute 𝑅 = √𝑅𝑥 2 + 𝑅𝑦 2 and 𝜃 = tan−1 𝑅𝑥

5. Compute the moments of forces about any point taken as reference point for
example origin point O ( ∑ 𝑀𝑜)

6. The moment of resultant about any point equal the summation of forces about
this point

𝑹𝒅 = ∑ 𝑀𝑜
Σ𝑀𝑜
7. Compute moment arm distance from origin point , 𝑑 = | |
