conducted an activity entitled “Horror
Story and Movie Poster Making”
contest on October 30, 2021 via
CTESC Aparri Facebook Page. The
contest aims to engage CTEd students
in developing an art piece based on
the story which narrates their horrifying
experience.
The said activity, spearheaded
by CTESC officers, was open to all
willing CTEd students to showcase
their writing and digital editing skills in

Bee Competition at Cagayan State
University on October 28, 2021 via
Google Meet. This is to challenge and
test the thinking skills of the student at
the Education department.
Ferdinand Dela Cruz, a BSED
English major, won the said
competition confidently. The second
place was garnered by Emerson Paul
Maramag, Azel Joy Cape got the
second place, and Crystelle Faye

entitled: HAIKU POEM MAKING
headed by Governor Randel C. Magara
via CTESC Facebook page on October
27 2021, Tuesday exactly 5:00 in the
afternoon participated by CTED
students.
The activity’s objective is to
exhibit students’ poetic skills by
showcasing their writing skills and let
their vast creativity and knowledge be
featured. Students from different
majors-English, Math, Science and

commented their haiku poems in the
CTESC post.

very common proverb around the
world but rarely manifested by most of
us.
From Villa Leonora, Buguey,
a coastal municipality in the province
of Cagayan Valley, there resides Ms.
Michelle Dumaual, a daughter of Mr.
Marlon Dumaual and Mrs. Carmelita
Dumaual. She’s a third-year student of
College of Teacher Education, taking
up Bachelor of Secondary Education.
A one of a kind, determined, and
strong-willed CSUan of the new
normal.
With the tremendous
modification and phases of change in
our education system during the
pandemic, the quest for motivation to
strive harder seems too bleary. The
indistinct ending of uncertainty
continues to rack up our already-
tottering sanity. What else can we do
except for accepting and dealing with
our troubles? For Ms. Michelle, it is to
remain unwavering and strong-willed.
To be resourceful and flexible despite
any source of difficulty.
According to her, face-to-face
classes are more enjoyable than
blended/online learning. Honestly, I
can’t disagree with her. Indeed,
experiences and opportunities in face-
to-face learning are way better and
productive than online learning. Her
ultimate struggle and concern is her
internet connectivity, which holds a
major and vital part in attending her
classes. She always has to go to the
riverbank just to attend her class.
Either she’s covered with the heat of
the scorching sun or drenched in the
freezing coldness of the rain.
Furthermore, the riverbank is

her only choice. There’s no other
place for her to stay connected.
When it’s raining, her usual umbrella
serves as her shed against the
countless wintry drops to protect
herself and her learning tools.
Frequently, the forceful blow of the
wind worsens her situation,
distracting her from her ongoing
class. Nothing hurts more to a
determined student like her than to
be grievously stricken by such
difficulty.
To motivate herself, she
simply thinks of her parents, most
especially her dream of making them
proud. Instead of giving in to the
depressing invitation of pressures
and sadness from her unfortunate
situation, at the end of the day, she
always chooses to continue the battle
for her dream and seeks the silver
lining in any circumstances. She’s
indeed a true CSUan.
No obstacles or misfortunes
can shake the firmness of Michelle’s
will to win against all odds. Her slow
internet connectivity is nothing
compared to her eagerness to learn.
Her pressures and anxieties are
nothing, against the sound powers of
her mind. Lastly, the heat and colds
from the riverbank are of no strength
compared to her determination and
ever-thriving nature to succeed. She
also reminds every student,
especially those who have the same
situation as her to, “Believe that all of
these hardships will soon be replaced
with joy and blessing. Just put your
faith in God and keep going. Don’t
stop because these challenges will
make you stronger. You may be
stumbled and failed but those were
part of the process. Cry if you need
but don’t quit.”

It was a usual Monday afternoon
when my blabby best friend shared an
interest-catching quote from a British
playwright and screenwriter, Tom Stoppard.
He said, “I still believe that if your dream is
to change the world, journalism is a more
immediate short-term weapon”. I wondered
how so I went through a profound study
and reading to find it out. Then I was
amazed.
First, we have to step on the floor of
the learning skills where we have to pass
the four doors of learning skills. The door of
Critical Thinking is where your brain is your
asset in finding solutions to current
problems. Next is the door of Creativity,
where you can see concepts of different
lights which leads to innovation. The door
of Collaboration is the third, wherein you
need to work with others to achieve the
best possible results. And lastly, the sticky
door of communication that glues all the
educational qualities together. It is effective
in eliminating confusion in the workplace.
But the journey towards
development does not stop there. You must
also discover the three parts of literacy
skills. First is the ‘literary skills’. It contains
an understanding of facts, figures,
statistics, and data that they will encounter
online. The second is ‘media literacy’ that
helps find truth in a world saturated with
information. And finally, the ‘technology
literacy’ where you unmask the high-
powered tools that run today’s world.
Your journey will continue to the last
stage which is the Life Skills, the natural
skills within us. First on the list is ‘flexibility’
where we can adapt to any changes, which
prepares us for the next step which is
‘leadership', the pushing force of a team
with the help of ‘initiation’ where we need
not wait for others to tell us what to do.
Followed by ‘productivity’ to maintain
efficiency in an age of distractions. And
lastly, the 'social skills' where we network
and meet with others for mutual benefit.
The journey does not stop, the
journey never ends. The jaunt of being a
journalist is affiliated with the skills and
character of a great asset of an individual.
Skills are being fostered and developed as
we train to become one. Through
journalism, we grow and cultivate the skills
and character of 21st-century individuals,
especially a learner. It is a way for us to
make incredible changes for the rising
progress of our generation.
