A) Happy experiences

1. Throughout our lives, Identify the things that we are thankful for and offer them as
prayer to our God.
2. Among those experiences, what the things that we are thankful for?

A Simple Prayer of Gratitude

Thank you, Lord, for the blessings you have bestowed on my life. You have provided me
with more than I could ever have imagined. You have surrounded me with people who
always look out for me. You have given me family and friends who bless me every day
with kind words and actions. They lift me up in ways that keep my eyes focused on you
and make my spirit soar.
Also, thank you, Lord, for keeping me safe. You protect me from those things that seem
to haunt others. You help me make better choices and provide me with advisors to help
me with life’s difficult decisions. You speak to me in so many ways so that I always know
you are here.

And Lord, I am so grateful for keeping those around me safe and loved. I hope that you
provide me with the ability and sense to show them every day how much they matter. I
hope that you give me the ability to give to them the same kindness they have provided
to me.

I am extremely grateful for all of your blessings in my life, Lord. I pray that you remind
me of just how blessed I am and that you never allow me to forget to show my gratitude
in prayer and returned acts of kindness.

Thank you, Lord.,

Amen.

B) Painful experiences

 The Story of Job (Video or scriptural text)

 God allows these painful experiences in our life for us to acknowledge that aside from
good and happy experiences we also have not-so-happy and even painful ones (e.g.
pandemic). This is what makes us alive. These also help shape us into the persons that
we are today.
 Amidst the experiences we recognize the presence of our God and how God journeys
with us throughout our lives, comforting us when we are sad, accompanying us at
every moment of our lives.
 Even though we have painful experiences:
 God sends persons or events that comforts us.
 God’s invitation to be close to Him
 God’s promise of consolation
 God is with us
Points for Reflection:
In all those experiences, what is God’s invitation to you?

Lord our God, you are patient with sinners and accept
our desire to make amends. Send your Holy Spirit to help us
know our sins, repent and acknowledge them that we may be
reconciled with you and one another. May your mercy reform
our lives and lead us to everlasting joy. We ask this through
our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
(Short Silence………)

Penitential Act
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and
sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my
words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous
fault; therefore, I ask blessed Mary ever-virgin, all the angels
and saints, and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to
the Lord our God.

Instrumental music will be played as background

Reading of the Word of God

Gospel Reading: Luke 15: 11-32

A reading from the Holy Gospel According to Luke

Then he said, “A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father, ‘Father,
give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’ So, the father divided the property
between them. After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings and set off to a
distant country where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.
When he had freely spent everything, a severe famine struck that country, and he
found himself in dire need. So, he hired himself out to one of the local citizens who sent him
to his farm to tend the swine. And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed,
but nobody gave him any.
Coming to his senses he thought, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more
than enough food to eat, but here am I, dying from hunger. I shall get up and go to my father
and I shall say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I no longer
deserve to be called your son; treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
So, he got up and went back to his father. While he was still a long way off, his father
caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him and
kissed him. His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no
longer deserve to be called your son.’ But his father ordered his servants, ‘Quickly bring the
finest robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Take the
fattened calf and slaughter it. Then let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was
dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found.’ Then the celebration
began.
Now the older son had been out in the field and, on his way back, as he neared the
house, he heard the sound of music and dancing. He called one of the servants and asked
what this might mean. The servant said to him, ‘Your brother has returned and your father
has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ He became angry,
and when he refused to enter the house, his father came out and pleaded with him. He said
to his father in reply, ‘Look, all these years I served you and not once did I disobey your
orders; yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends. But when your
son returns who swallowed up your property with prostitutes, for him you slaughter the
fattened calf.’ He said to him, ‘My son, you are here with me always; everything I have is
yours. But now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come
to life again; he was lost and has been found.”

The Gospel of the Lord

Short silence for reflection

Reflection
We all like the younger Son in gospel; impatient, stubborn, wanted to try new things,
commit mistakes and so much focused on the worldly things. Sometime, we fail to recognize
God when we have everything. Just like the younger son, we commit mistakes.
But despite of our sins, mistakes, and failures God never abandon us; God welcomes us
always and even celebrates whenever we go back to him.

Video: https://youtu.be/Nf2MZRenJMU (When God Ran)

The Gospel challenges us:

- like the younger son, acknowledge our sins, and humbly asks God’s forgiveness
- like the father in the Gospel, learn to accept and forgives those who sinned
against us.
- Never forget that God always with us through happiness and loneliness of life
and welcomes us whenever we humble return to him.
So with this I invite you to this opportunity to ask forgiveness to your God who loves you
despite of the mistakes, failures and sins that we committed. As we silenced our hearts, we
come into a conversation to him asking his mercy and forgiveness. Like the younger Son in
the Gospel we say, “Father I have sinned against heaven and against you…..”

b. Reconciliation Activity
This moment students are invited into a prayerful silence and reflection. On the piece of paper
or in their notebook they are asked to:
1. Identify the mistakes and sinned they committed to God, to themselves, to their
parents/family, to their teacher and classmates.
2. Write a letter of forgiveness to, God, their parents and to the person that they
wanted to asks forgiveness.
3. Write a Prayer for forgiveness
(While this activity is on-going, Catholic students are invited to go to confession.)

After the confession;

- Students are invited to go to their respective classmates and their adviser to asks
forgiveness and reconcile their relationships. (Giving of Candles or letter may
also be done during this time)

c. Conclusion:
Invite the students to be silent, as we pray the closing prayer (Instrumental music may
be added)

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, you loved us, and continue to bless us with your mercy and
forgiveness. We thank you for giving us this opportunity to acknowledge that we are sinners.
Despite of that, you continue pouring your love to us and be reconcile with your whenever
we ask forgiveness. Grant that we may not fail you, to sin no more and avoid to whatever
lead us to sin. In humility we pray through your Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen
