I am a coach because I want to make an impact on my players, I want to motivate and
model them, to value hard work and commitment. I want to coach because in the past I have had good experiences and bad experiences. One of my most recent coaches made me lose my love for the game of basketball. As a player that is the worst thing that can happen, losing love for a game you’ve been playing your entire life. I want to coach to make sure that something like that never happens again. Athletics is different for many people. Parents put their kids into athletics at a young age for social interaction. Most kids then quit the sport since they are uninterested. I value athletics to be a reveal of the character the athlete is. For example, in basketball and many other sports there are many different types of players. There's the ball hog, a team player, non- confident players, and confident players. Every single one of these types of players has a different type of character when it comes to game time. This behavior is based on previous years in sport and life. I think if I want to be a great coach, I need to mold my players' character into the best person they can possibly be. My coaching style will be motivating. I want to motivate my players as much as possible. If I can be a great motivator to a young group, then I would be a satisfied coach. I need to have an open environment, need to let my players know that they talk to me about issues they have or problems with school. The type of relationship I will have with future players will be a close relationship and I will respect them as much as they respect me. With other staff on the team, I will try to talk with them as much as possible to figure out how we can make our team better. In the community I coach I will try to be involved as much as possible, fundraising with the team is something I look forward to as a future coach. With opponents and officials, I will always respect them. My philosophy and coaching style do integrate the mission statement of NYS Athletic Framework and the 4 C’s. My philosophy integrates the mission statement of educating my players and having competitiveness throughout the season. My coaching style integrates the mission statement from being a role model of sportsmanship and coaching sportsmanship. My coaching style and philosophy integrate competence, character, civility, and citizenship. It integrates competence by being successful at what type a coach I am for my athletes. It integrates character by molding my future athletes into great characters and a role model for younger athletes. It integrates civility by coaching and educating my players to have sportsmanship and be polite to officials, I will be the one who speaks to officials if there are issues. Finally, my coaching style and philosophy integrates citizenship by educating and coaching my athletes to becoming future role models for many people they come across in their life. I know I will love being a coach to all types of athletes. I want for my players to never go through what I went through as a player. I will try to be a great coach even if a record at the end of the year doesn’t prove it. I know what I want to do as a future coach, and if my players come to me after the season or years past them playing just to say “thank you”. That proves if I was a great coach or not.
