Activity Title: SIMON SAYS

Age Group: 3 TO 5 YEARS

Originating Idea

I chose to implement this activity as it will allow children to practice gross motor

skills, practice learning/revisiting body parts and listening skills.

Materials

 Open large space/area

 Hoola hoop

 Plastic/Basketballs

Curriculum Content:
[Developmental Area & KDI focus]

 C. Physical Development and Health: Gross-motor skills, fine-motor skills,

body awareness

 D. Language, Literacy and Communication: Comprehension, Vocabulary,

English Language Learning.

 B: Social and Emotional Development: Cooperative play

Beginning

Explain to the children/class they will follow the teacher’s instructions correctly

ONLY following “SIMON SAYS”. Who makes a mistake will have to sit down and last one

remaining will win the game. Allow for one practice round or demonstrate with another

staff member before starting.

Middle:
Children will line up in a straight line or in a large circle and wait to listen for each

command to present the action.

Extensions:
Easier: start with simple commands such as Simon says touch your nose.

Tricker: say 1-3 commands with Simon says then quickly WITHOUT Simon

says/incorporate a item such as a basketball

End
[How will you conclude this activity? (warning/transition to the next activity/part of
routine)]
Wait until the last child is standing to present as most active listener for large group

time. Allow that child to attempt to now act as Simon. Explain the warning of once we have

a winner Simon will come back tomorrow and game over.

Follow-up Ideas:
Continue with Simon says another day in the same week and allow a child to choose

the materials and inside or outside. If children show high interest in a certain material

implement another activity with that material being the main idea. (ex: if children like to

bounce the basketball, play kiddy basketball/kid version of basketball)

Assessment:
The plans did meet and exceed my objections and matched with the KDI’s that

coincided with the activity. The children played with the materials as directed when Simon

told them to do so for majority of the activity. Very few children needed more time to catch

on to the game as a great number out the group did respond as anticipated and correctly.

From Simon says children will gain greater listening skills and increase gross motor skills
as it is a very active activity. I don’t believe anything would need to be done differently for

this KDI specific activity.
