Drainage system

Making sure that the drainage system that choose can keep us comfortable throughout the

application is crucial when creating a science lab. It is crucial to thoroughly evaluate the building items

and materials specified and placed in the area, ensuring the safety of students, personnel, and property,

despite the inherent caustic and hazardous character of chemicals and other compounds found in school

scientific laboratories. Any research lab that wants to handle, transport, and dispose of chemical waste

properly should have good drainage since the environment demands it. To guarantee that the pipeline

and fittings' construction can withstand the severe climate and potentially corrosive liquids passing

through (Rod McLachlan, 2022).

Structure

Roy (2010) discusses the significance of building safety when designing a brand-new science lab

or remodeling an old one. Many schools tend to exclude or remove science teachers from the planning

process, despite the fact that they may have a greater awareness of laboratory needs than the majority

of administrators. It also explains the degree of participation of the scientific teachers in the

development and construction of a new lab. Additionally, it demonstrates that risk management needs

to take precedence in science labs and classrooms. Science laboratory facilities must be operated by

trained laboratory workers. If given the chance, they ought to offer suggestions to the lab designers to

make sure the facilities satisfy the requirements of the functions of the laboratory. The ability to use

ventilation systems, environmental controls, laboratory chemical hoods, and other exhaust devices

safely depends on laboratory personnel's understanding of their capabilities and limitation. The

experimental work should be considered in the context of the complete laboratory and its facilities to

ensure safety and effectiveness (National Research Council (US), 2011).

Air Ventilation

In order to create safe and effective work environments for those who are employed in

laboratories and other essential workspaces, laboratory hoods and ventilation systems must operate as

intended. Laboratories are designed to advance science and foster achievement. However, due to the

variability of laboratory activities and the risk associated with the possibility for exposure to airborne

contaminants, exposure control devices like chemical fume hoods and lab ventilation systems must be

properly chosen, designed, operated, and maintained. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for

laboratories, therefore the ventilation systems must be functional throughout the building's lifespan and

fulfill the needs of the tenants. Appropriate lab ventilation design levels can be established using a risk-

based systems approach that incorporates a lab ventilation risk assessment ( Smith, T. C., 2022).

Tables

Students will have the platform they need to carry out their experiments on if they use science

laboratory tables that are of the highest quality and were expertly made. The usage of a suitable science

lab table guarantees both comfort and productivity. They also give them some space to store their tools

and equipment properly (Anonymous,2019).

Workplace

More significant is the environment at the scientific workplace. It is essential for institutions to

comprehend the impact facility design can have on whether or not they are successful given the number

of disciplines that share a single space, each with their own needs and methods of operation, and the

growing number of remote team members that require means of collaboration. When people discuss
improving the working environment, they primarily refer to the researchers there. They are the

elements that have an impact on retention, innovation, and performance, all of which are indicators of a

research institution's success. Through data analysis, Toker and Gray's study established this association

that there is a substantial link between workplace planning, consultations, and the outcomes of the

innovation process (Toni Loiacano,2019).

Storage

According to Faye Annis (n.d.), maintaining an ordered workspace is essential for everyone who

has ever worked in a laboratory setting. Organization and efficiency can greatly benefit from correctly

storing important laboratory materials. Work areas in laboratories can rapidly get cluttered and

disorganized since they frequently require a big number of supplies. Storage containers for laboratory

supplies that are suitable can keep supplies organized and out of the way. Lab supplies are always

necessary, whether working in a lab that focuses on medical, scientific, or research applications.
