LEARNING OUTLINE

1. Review previous lesson by placing the vocabulary flashcards face down on a table in front of the class.
PRE-LESSON

2. Take one of the flashcards, making sure pupils can’t see it.
3. Cover it with a piece of card then slowly begin revealing the flashcard to the class.
4. Pupils try to guess the word as it is revealed.
5. Continue until pupils have guessed all the words.
6. Activity 1:
a. Grammar box: Mime doing a sport, smile and say I like cycling. Follow the same procedure with the verbs
enjoy, love, hate and don’t like while miming a different sport each time. Make sure to be more enthusiastic
while miming the verb love in order to establish the difference between like, enjoy and love.
b. Read the sentences out loud and invite pupils to guess each of the sentence means.
c. Refer pupils to the grammar reference. (SB pg 166)
LESSON DEVELOPMENT

7. Activity 2:
a. Direct pupils’ attention to the picture and ask them to guess what they are doing. (SB pg 93 Act 3)
b. Play CD track 53 and have pupils chorally repeat the exchange.
c. Extend the dialogue to make it a more natural interaction.
e.g. add: Really? / So, don’t like cycling. / Sorry, did you say you love playing tennis?
d. In pairs, pupils take turns talking to each other about the sports they like and dislike. (Assessment)
e. Have some pairs of pupils do the activity in front of the rest of the class.
8. Activity 3:
a. Distribute survey form to pupils.
b. Have pupils talk to each other about the sports they like/dislike and complete the survey form.
c. Then, get pupils to share their findings.

9. Sing the next line: Explain to pupils that you are going to play the song Sports and stop it every now and then.
They will have to try and remember what comes next in the song and continue singing.
POST-LESSON

10. Play the song once for pupils to sing.


11. Then play it again, pausing only a couple of times for pupils to sing.
12. Keep playing the song and pausing more and more each time so that pupils have more to sing without the CD
each time.
13. In the end, see if pupils can sing the whole song without hearing the words.
