2 Remove the assembly.

Note
Mark the orientation of the fork shaft to the synchronizer ring.

Note
Gear must be in high range for removal.

Note
If difficult to remove, lift on the shaft and tap down on the housing with a dead blow
hammer.

3 Remove the selector fork.

4 Inspect the selector pads.

5 Perform this procedure when the condition below is met.

Conditions
● If the selector fork is worn or damaged.

▶ Replace the selector fork.

▶ Remove the screws.

▶ Remove the fork.

▶ Install the fork.

▶ Install the screws.

Note
Use new parts.

▶ Torque tighten the screws.

Tightening torque

Range gear, selector fork, screw 75 ±7 Nm

(55 ±5 lbf⋅ft)

▶ Place the selector fork in the vice.

▶ Stake the screws.

▶ Remove the selector fork from the vice.

6 Ensure that the wide tooth (D) on the synchronizing ring (C) is lined up with the chamfered
tooth (A) on the ring gear (B).

7 Perform this procedure when the condition below is met.

Conditions
● If the synchronizing ring is not lined up correctly.

▶ Align the synchronizing ring.

▶ Remove the synchronizer ring from the ring gear teeth.

Note
The synchronizer ring does not have to be completely removed.

Note
Do not remove the lock ring.

▶ Rotate the synchronizing ring (C) so that the wide tooth (D) is lined up with the chamfered tooth (A)
on the ring gear (B).

▶ Clean all the parts.

▶ Check the parts for wear and damage.

▶ Replace worn and damaged parts.

▶ Install the synchronizing ring.

8 Install the assembly.

9 Lubricate the shaft.

Oil

10 Install the selector fork.

Note
Use the orientation mark to properly align new parts.
