B. Operation.

(1) Remove Extinguisher (Fig 1) from bracket (Fig 2)

(2) Release Extinguisher safety catch by lifting up.

(3) Aim Extinguisher at base of fire.

(4) Squeeze trigger. This fractures the frangible seal on the syphon tube
assembly discharging the contents through nozzle. On releasing the
trigger, the spring forces the cylindrical piston onto the secondary seal
‘O’ ring, thus interrupting the flow of extinguishant and preventing
leakage of any remaining agent in the container.

(5) Operation of the trigger also fractures the indicator disc Fig 1 (140) RED,
causing it to eject from the discharge head assembly Fig 1 (100), thus
providing a visual indication that the extinguisher has been used.

(6) The optimum distance from the fire for effective firefighting, is between
4 and 6 feet, with the extinguisher held within 30º either side of vertical.

2. CLEANING

A. General

(1) No special materials are required for cleaning. The outside of

extinguishers should be cleaned with cotton wipers, removing grease and
dust etc.

(2) Discharge Heads should be clean and free from foreign objects.

GUIDANCE ON HANDLING THE EXTINGUISHANT IN ORDER TO
COMPLY WITH THE REGULATIONS APPLICABLE TO THEIR
GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION.

WARNING: TAKE CARE WHEN UNSCREWING THE OPERATING HEAD.

UNSCREW HEAD SLOWLY. IF ‘HISSING’ NOISE IS HEARD
SCREW HEAD BACK TIGHTLY AS THIS INDICATES THE
FRANGIBLE PLUG HAS BEEN FRACTURED AND WILL CAUSE A
SUDDEN RELEASE OF GAS OR PRESSURE IF THE HEAD IS
UNSCREWED.

NOTE: The overall life of the Fire Extinguisher is 10 years, during that period no
hydrostatic testing of the Fire Extinguisher (pressure vessel) is required.

NOTE: High Resolution Scales = Suitable Capacity, Measure in increments of

0.001Kg & Currently Calibrated.

(1) Fully charged Extinguishers should be check weighed at periods of

approximately 12 months. If gauge is fitted, ensure that the needle is in the
GREEN sector. Extinguishers with obvious damage, part discharged or
empty, should be scrapped locally.

(2) The weight check must be performed with the Discharge Head Fig 1 (100)
installed and the Transit Pin Fig 1 (130) removed. Any additional labels
the operator / service station may have added to the Assembly must also be
taken into account.
Place extinguisher on high -resolution scales and check that the
extinguisher weight is within 10 grams (0.352ozs) of that stated on the
back screen print label or label on neck of cylinder, and / or on concave
base of container where the check weight is repeated. Extinguishers under
specified weight / tolerance must be rejected.

(3) Replace transit pin, Fig 1 (130). Return serviceable extinguishers to service
or storage.
