B. Operation.
(4) Squeeze trigger. This fractures the frangible seal on the syphon tube
assembly discharging the contents through nozzle. On releasing the
trigger, the spring forces the cylindrical piston onto the secondary seal
‘O’ ring, thus interrupting the flow of extinguishant and preventing
leakage of any remaining agent in the container.
(5) Operation of the trigger also fractures the indicator disc Fig 1 (140) RED,
causing it to eject from the discharge head assembly Fig 1 (100), thus
providing a visual indication that the extinguisher has been used.
(6) The optimum distance from the fire for effective firefighting, is between
4 and 6 feet, with the extinguisher held within 30º either side of vertical.
2. CLEANING
A. General
(2) Discharge Heads should be clean and free from foreign objects.

A. General
NOTE: Refilling of Fire Extinguishers is not recommended for approved
containers, unless the Operator has an approved filling rig.
NOTE: Prior to starting disassembly operations, personnel shall read carefully all
instructions and study the illustration applicable to the equipment
undergoing overhaul.
NOTE: The overall life of the Fire Extinguisher is 10 years, during that period no
hydrostatic testing of the Fire Extinguisher (pressure vessel) is required.
(2) The weight check must be performed with the Discharge Head Fig 1 (100)
installed and the Transit Pin Fig 1 (130) removed. Any additional labels
the operator / service station may have added to the Assembly must also be
taken into account.
Place extinguisher on high -resolution scales and check that the
extinguisher weight is within 10 grams (0.352ozs) of that stated on the
back screen print label or label on neck of cylinder, and / or on concave
base of container where the check weight is repeated. Extinguishers under
specified weight / tolerance must be rejected.
(3) Replace transit pin, Fig 1 (130). Return serviceable extinguishers to service
or storage.

B. Extinguisher Overhaul.
NOTE 1: The overall life of the Fire Extinguisher is 10 years, during that period no
hydrostatic testing of the Fire Extinguisher (pressure vessel) is required.
(1) Unscrew the discharge head assembly Fig 1 (100) from the used container
Fig 1 (10). Discard the container.
(2) Remove old indicator disc Fig 1 (140) shear legs (coloured red) from the
discharge head assembly Fig 1 (100) by pushing them through and out of
the hole provided for indicator disc.
(3) Ensure old syphon tube assembly ‘pip’ is removed from inside discharge
head assembly.
(4) Serviceable discharge head assemblies should be clean and free from
foreign objects. Check for smooth operation, by squeezing trigger. If
action feels sluggish, stiff or has any tendency to stick, then replace with
NEW discharge head.
(6) Install serviceable discharge head Fig1 (100) onto fully charged container
Fig 1 (10). Do not over tighten discharge head.
(8) Replace transit pin, Fig 1 (130). Return serviceable extinguisher to service
or storage.
