PARASITE

Parasite is a 2019 South Korean black comedic thriller-drama film that won multiple

honors from prestigious academy awards throughout the world for its captivating plot twists

and compelling narrative. It is a film that encourages remarkable and unconventional suspense.

As it is so great, anyone in the public could argue about which group is the parasite: the rich or

the poor.

The core of the story was about the two families; The Kims , a family living in miserable

poverty in the slums of an unidentified South Korean City, that labors frantically and entirely

for money throughout their life. The Kim family consists of a college young boy named Ki-woo

Kim who ambitiously wanted to get rich, together with his family - father Ki-taek Kim , mother

Chung-sook Kim , and sister Ki-jung Kim. They eke out a living by performing menial jobs like

folding pizza boxes. But then, the pizza staff criticizes them for the boxes' sloppy folding. As

they were so anxious to leave their predicament; they fabricated all of their documents,

including resumes and identities, and had them work for the outrageously wealthy Parks family,

who are dependent on the unprivileged in terms of undertaking day-to-day household errands.

As they entered to the world of the wealthy as a family and employee at the same time;

greed and class discrimination came their way, which the Kims found out that the Parks family

had been unknowingly harboring a stranger in their basement for years

Ki-woo undertakes an interview with the affluent Park family, meeting Mr. Park, his

disorganized wife, Mrs. Park, and their two children, young boy Da-song and teenage daughter

Da-hye. He receives a sizable salary from Mrs. Park, who also mentions that Da-song needs an
art instructor. Da-song needs assistance with his artwork after experiencing a traumatic

occurrence in which he saw a "ghost" in the house and had a seizure. When Ki-woo connects

them to Ki-jung, who forges documents on her behalf and goes by the name "Jessica," both of

them start making a ton of money. In order to have the Parks' limo driver get fired, Ki-jung, or

the " pretending teacher Jessica," left her lingerie in the vehicle after she was sent home. The

next day, Mr. Park found the lingerie. The driver was then fired, and Ki-jung then offered her

"uncle"—who was actually Ki-taek, his father—as the replacement driver. The housekeeper,

Moon-kwang, held the last position. She has been employed ever since the crazy architect who

previously owned the modern house moved the Park family in. To terminate the housekeeper,

the Kims made Moon-kwang have allergic reactions by taking advantage of her sensitivity to

peaches. They then persuaded Mrs. Park that Moon-Kwang, the housekeeper, was very unwell

and could not be around their kid. Mrs. Park had no choice but to fire their loyal housekeeper.

Mrs. Park, was devastated and urgently hired Mrs. Kim, deceiving the Park family into hiring the

entire Kim family.

The Kim family was delighted with their massive financial gain and took advantage

drinking, eating, and messing up the room that night, after the Park family decided to go out

camping for Da-song's birthday weekend.

The Kim family was startled when the doorbell rang and immediately began to hide. It

was the housekeeper Moon-Kwang. Moon-Kwang states that after how quickly she was fired,

she was unable to get all of her belongings, and she just wants them back. Moon-Kwang rushed

into the basement and began screaming as soon as Mrs. Kim opened the door for her. She then

uncovered a concealed door behind some shelves, and Mrs. Kim reluctantly let her inside. She
went to see her husband Geun-sae, who has been secretly living in the bunker ever since the

last owner did to avoid being caught by debt collectors.

Mrs. Kim was mystified as to where Moon-Kwang was going when she saw that she was

feeding her husband. Mrs. Kim watched in disbelief. As Moon-kwang begs her to let them stay,

Mrs. Kim informs her that she must go. While the rest of the Kim family was eavesdropping;

they abruptly tumble down the stairs and accidentally call each other by their call signs, "dad"

and "mom," which Moon-Kwang films on her phone. She then realizes the scam done by the

Kim family. To get the Kim family to comply with her and her husband's demands, she threatens

to send it to the Park family.

Then suddenly, Mrs. Kim's phone rang; it was the Park family calling to tell that they

have canceled their camping vacation due to heavy rain and will be home in eight minutes. The

Kim family quickly manages Moon-Kwang and her husband through a bloody fist-to-fist fight

and was forced to hide in the bunker. The Kims confine the other two in the basement while

attempting to clean up as much as they can. When Moon-kwang escaped and goes upstairs,

Mrs. Kim pushes her back down the stairs, where she bangs her head and sustains serious

injuries. When the Parks arrived home, Mrs. Kim managed to prepare their meal while the rest

of the Kim family crouched behind the sofa table in the living room. Mr. and Mrs. Park end up

spending the night in the living room since Da-song camped out in the backyard and couldn't

sleep, leaving the Kims cold beneath the table. Mr. Kim felt absurd and pity after Mr. and Mrs.

Park's had a conversation and discriminated him about its smell. They eventually succeed in

getting their escape in the middle of the night after realizing Mr. and Mrs. Park were deep

asleep. They returned home and found their place was completely flooded with rain and
sewage. As their house began to fall apart, they were unable to stop it and felt the unluckiest

family had lived. The Kim family spends the night in a shelter, like a vulnerable animals.

The next day, Mrs. Park decided to throw Da-song an impromptu party. The Kim family

was invited and required to act as though they are unaware that there are two persons

imprisoned in a bunker under the house. The Kim family was acting as a support to Mrs. Park

surprise for Da-song. While carrying the rock, Ki-woo glanced inside the bunker to determine

whether the two Moon-kwang and her husband had managed to escape. He didn't realize that

Geun-sae, Moon-Kwang’s husband was already conscious, and beaten him with a rock, and left

him blooded into the floor of the Park's kitchen. Then Geun-sae enters the crowd and stabs Ki-

jung, also known as "teacher Jessica," in the chest.

The party went into a complete nightmare, and Da-song had a seizure as he perceived Geun-

sae as the "ghost" he had previously seen during his childhood. Mr. Park screams at his driver

Mr. Kim for the car keys to send Da-song to the hospital, who was at the same time trying to

stop Ki-Jungs or his daughter's chest bleeding. Mr. Kim had no choice, but to throw the car keys

to Mr. Park. However, it lands on Geun-sae’s dead body killed by Mrs. Kim using the meat

skewer. Mr. Park attempted to get the keys. But, he was disgusted by Geun-sae’s smell, which

in turn triggers Mr. Kim, making him angry towards Mr. Park's action. As Mr. Kim was so angry

about it, he gets a knife and stabs Mr. Park which caused Mr. Park's death.

Months had passed, and Ki-woo awakens after several weeks of being unconscious.

After knowing of his sister’s death Ki-Jung, he and Mrs. Kim got probationary sentences. Even

though Mr. Kim has been sought after extensively by the police in connection with the murder
of Mr. Park, he has not been seen. In the previous Park family's home, Ki-woo notices flickering

lights. Ki-woo deciphers the flickering from Morse code and discovers that his dad Mr. Kim was

operating the lights from inside the bunker, where he was currently residing, and sneaking

upstairs to the new owners for food. Ki-woo replies to his father's letter and promises that one

day he would be prosperous enough to purchase the house.

Unfortunately, Ki-woo was not destined to be prosperous enough to get the house and

left with his life in slaved with poverty together with his mom and continuously reading the

letter of his dead father Mr. Kim.
