Individual Report

Over the course of me traveling to Bình Dương province and participating in

the workshop as a sophomore of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, I have
to admit that I have learned so many unexpected things from the workshop that the
teachers in 5-Star English Center hosted, and this also, to such a degree, has helped
me navigate my career path in the future since I have always been worried about who
I am going to be in the next few years.

To begin with, I have to be honest that I never have a chance to study English
in any centers, so little do I know about how every English center runs until the day I
paid a visit to a 5-Star English center. Through the workshop host’ speaking, I have
learned about how an English center actually implements each and every segment in
terms of teaching, taking care of and supporting students of all ages. Besides, I have
also learned that there is a variety of jobs in the English center such as teacher
assistant, part-time teacher, full-time teacher and academic coordinator. And each job
has different roles and salaries. The salary is the secret that I have always been curious
about. Thanks to this workshop, I knew that  the full-time teacher’s salary is the
highest among these, which is 10 million VND. On top of that, the new thing that I
was really surprised about was the amount of time to reach the title Director, which is
from three to nine years. There are actually 4 stages: Staff, Vice-Manager, Manager,
and Director. Each of these takes one to three years to reach the higher position.
Lastly, the most interesting part of the workshop was that I was able to check my EQ
scores to see whether or not I am in a group of lower or higher EQ. Eventually, it
turned out that I was in a group of lower one. This means I have to learn how to
behave more sympathetically towards people in the future.

I have nurtured the dream of being an interpreter or translator and a full-time

teacher since I was a high-school student.  However, it is quite hard for me as a
spontaneous person to prepare for my future career. Through this workshop, I think
from now on, this is the time that I have to seriously get down to thinking about the
preparation for my career path. Currently, I have considered teaching jobs as my first
job after I graduate since I have done a lot of research about teaching and participated
in many workshops related to the teaching industry as initial preparations before my
graduation and getting into the teaching industry. The biggest advantage of me having
is the experience I gained from the many workshops and being a teaching assistant for
years. However, I lose patience and get bored very easily so I have to admit that it is
quite hard for me to keep doing only one job. Therefore, after several years being a
teacher, I will start to learn to be a translator. Before that, I have to guarantee myself
that I am equipped with enough skills gained from initial and practical experience. I
suppose I will do the same way as I did to gain teaching experience, which is joining
workshops related to translating skills and receiving advice from professionals
specialized in translating or interpreting. Problems during my journey are inevitable.
In case I can not achieve either teaching jobs or being a translator, I would choose to
self-learn and keep studying to reinforce my knowledge until I am qualified enough to
be hired. Moreover, there are a variety of websites such as Upwork or freelancevn for
a freelancer to do part-time or full-time job that I am able to do as a freelance
interpreter since there are some organizations that do not require experience of
interpreters but still pay freelance interpreters salary. Another problem that I take into
consideration is that I have not had any stand-out achievements to be written in my
CV to impress the recruiters. The only way I could think of to tackle this problem is
that I have to participate in a variety of academic competitions celebrated by
prestigious organizations such as Star Awards and strive to achieve the awards. This
would play as a stand-out point in my CV.

In conclusion, the trip was worth taking and the workshop has actually taught
me valuable and new things. This workshop brought me a raw experience in the
teaching industry and gave me an overall picture of it.  I sincerely appreciate this trip
and its educational values it brought to not only me but also every one in the faculty in
order to have a clearer understanding of the teaching industry.
