Lesson Idea Name: Frog Life Cycle Story

Grade Level/Content Area: 2nd Grade

Content Standard Addressed: S2L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the life
cycles of different living organisms.
a. Ask questions to determine the sequence of the life cycle of common animals in your area: a
mammal such as a cat, dog or classroom pet, a bird such as a chicken, an amphibian such as a frog,
and an insect such as a butterfly
&
d. Develop models to illustrate the unique and diverse life cycles of organisms other than humans
ISTE Technology Standard Addressed:  What would you like students to know and
be able to do by the end of this lesson:
1.3 Knowledge Constructor: Students - Understand the life cycle of animals
critically curate a variety of resources using
digital tools to construct knowledge, produce
creative artifacts and make meaningful
learning experiences for themselves and
others.
What is the student learning goal for this lesson idea?
Be able to communicate and trace the life cycle of different types of animals
Selected Instructional Software Tool:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):

- Microsoft Sway
Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Level(s):

How will this lesson be implemented? Check all that apply.

☐ Teacher-directed: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic for
presentation and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. Products of
learning will be uniquely designed. Teacher simply facilitates the learning in a lesson like this.

☐ Project-based and/or Publishable: Students are completing projects to demonstrate their learning
and the projects can be shared outside of the classroom. This objective could be reached by
displaying the project on the school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom
blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing it via an outside source.

Lesson idea implementation: In groups, students will choose an animal from a small list
(Dog/cat, frog, butterfly, or goldfish) and do research on their life cycle. Once they have
gathered enough knowledge, they will use Microsoft Sway to create a story on the life cycle
of their animal. After they have created their stories they will present their story to the other
groups to teach them about the life cycle of their animal.

Managing engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that gets students
actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? This lesson promotes creativity and
collaboration. Students will be placed into groups and be directed to co-use a computer to
create their stories. They will also need to plan how they will make their story together and
how they will present so that everyone is involved.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This activity promotes several different learning styles
including hands-on, auditory, and visual learning. Students are hand-on with the computer
and work with others to create a story. The story will contain visuals as well as audio for non-
visual learners to listen to the story.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I think this could be a good introduction to both story-making and using technology
toforoung students. It uses a very easy tool that is easy for students to use and follow which
will help them in their development skills as they grow up in a technology-based world.
