TITLE OF ACTIVITY:
RATIONALE:
In a country where almost 80% of the population are Roman Catholic, the celebration of
Christmas has been cemented into our tradition.Being the leading science high school in the
Philippines, it is important to embrace our culture, and as well-rounded scholars, it is essential to
tap into every student’s inner artistic and creative selves through arts and crafts using
non-conventional materials.
In cooperation with an adjacent project implemented by the Scholars’ High Council (SHC),
the “War On Waste” activity, the recyclable materials collected are subjected to be used as art
supplies in a creative take on the traditional Filipino Christmas tree. It shall be conducted on the
Philippine Science High School - Zamboanga Peninsula Region Campus grounds, and only
recyclable materials within the premises are eligible for usage.
The participants are to be sorted according to their empires, namely: Shinobi Beast,
Revenant Chimera, Resilient Phoenix, and Prudent Pegasus. With this, they are given the
opportunity to plan their designs as early as November 21, 2022 and create them with their own
respective assigned places all around the school activity center. The christmas trees’ height must
not be lower than two (2) meters but not more than four (4) meters and the width must not be
any less than one (1) meter, but not more than two (2) meters. In compliance with using
non-conventional materials, the tree must be 70% composed of trash, while the remaining 30%
may be of the following: adhesives, metal frames, foundation, lights, etc. The participants may
only start creating their designs at the peak of the “War On Waste” activity which is November
28, 2022. There must be four (4) outputs representing each of the empires, and the deadline
shall be set at December 15, 2022.
The activity shall be concluded on or before the Christmas tree lighting. In addition, the
winning empire of this competition shall carry over credit points for the Panagsanka 2023.

VENUE:
● During the making of the Christmas trees, the empires are given areas in the activity
center where they can create their own outputs.
● At the day of the Christmas tree lighting, the trees are to be displayed at the PSHS-ZRC
fountain with each of the trees placed at the cardinal directions.

then be used for Christmas-related activities for this school year and for more school
years to come.
● To utilize the total collected trash from the “War on Waste” activity and incorporate them
in the making of the Christmas tree making.
