Philippine festivals are cultural and religious celebrations showcasing rich


cultures, and homage to the town history and patron saints. It is celebrated as a
form of thanksgiving. Every province has its own Filipino Festivals. These festivals
are often vibrant, grand, and are celebrated with various activities. One of these
activities includes the “festival dances” which Filipinos are always excited about.
This activity sheet will show you the colorful, fun, and exciting Philippine
festivals.
Read first the learner’s reference sheet attached at the back to learn more about
these festival dances. Then, answer the following activities below.

At the end of the learning activities, the students should be able to:

FESTIVAL CHANTS
“Hala bira!” and “Viva la Virgen!” are examples of chants that are well- known in
different festivals in the Philippines. “Hala bira!” commonly heard from Ati atihan
festival of Kalibo, Aklan, and “Viva la Virgen!” from Peñafrancia festival of Bicol
Region.

Create a campaign art using the festival chant in your town encouraging the public
to watch and appreciate this festival.
