Learning Activity 1

Activity 1A.

1. Inductive reasoning is a bottom up approach, while deductive reasoning is a top bottom.

2. Inference formed without proof or sufficient evidence.
3. All the swans we have seen are white. Therefore, we know that all swans are white.
4. Used to prove a statement to be false. So to prove a statement to be false, only one
counterexample is sufficient. See full answer below.
5. The conclusion is not always true when the premises are true. The probability of the conclusion
depends on the strength of the inference from the premises.
6. First Understand the problem, you must understand the problem.
Second Devise a plan, use variety technique when to solve.
Third Carry out the plan, care full to solve a problem, and lastly.
Fourth Check and interpret.
7. Identify the problem, gather information and create an equation then solve problem and lastly
Verify your answer.
8. Ask yourself if you’re answer makes sense before you move on to another checking method.
Read the question again, focusing on the operation and numbers involved. Another way to do a
general check is by estimating.

ACTIVITY 1B.

a. 1,2,4,7,11,16,22,29 ?

1+0 = 1
1+1 =2
2+2 =4
4+3 = 7
7+ 4=11
Each time sum of previous number and position of that previous number in given series(1,2,3,..) =
Next number

previous number + position of previous number = next number

29 + 8 (position of 29 in given series) = 37

So next number will be 37
Here, Answer = 37

b. 5 15 45 135 405 1215 ?

Every number is multiplied by 3 to get the next number in the sequence

1×5=5

5×3=15

15×3=45

45×3=135

135×3=405
405×3=1215

1215×3=3645 so the answer is 3645

c. 1 4 9 16 19 24 31 34 39 46 ?

This process is that there are 3 add numbers that are used to have this pattern and its the 3 5 and 7.
repetition is used on it so the possible last number is 49 because 46 add 3 of it so the answer is 49.

d. 100 99 97 94 90 85 79 ?

This process is subtraction and number used from 1 up to the next number, the last number result
is by subtracting 85 by 6 and its result to 79 and the missing will be 72 by subtracting 79 by 7. so the
answer is 72

e. 9 12 11 14 13 16 15 18 ?

The process of this is addition and subtraction by the used of two numbers which is 3 and 1, 3 will
serve for the addition and 1 for the subtraction is from is added by 3 it results 18 so next it must be
subtracted by 1 and the result is 17.

f. O T T F F S S E ?

Obviously, the answer of this is letter N where its stand of NINE because the given letters which is
ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT and lastly NINE.
