ANSWER SHEET:
ACTIVITY:
A.
B.
1.
Step 1:
Since consecutive numbers differ by 1, Then let the two consecutive numbers be x, x+1.
Therefore, x(x+1) =240
Step 2:
(x) (x+1) =240
x^2+x=240
x^2+x-240=0
(x+16)(X-15)= 0
Step 3:
Equate both to 0
(x+16)= 0 (x-15) =0
x=-16 x=15
Step 4:
We must take the positive. Therefore x is equal to 15 and this is our first integer. Next is (x+1) our next integer, (15+1) =
16
2.
Step 1:
Let the numerator = x, Denominator = y according to eq. x/y+4
Step 2:
x/y+4=1/1
x= y+4
x-=2y4 … (1)
Step 3:
x+6/y-2=5/1
x+6=5y-10
x-5y= -16 … (2)
Step 4:
By eq. 1 and 2
x-5y= -16
x-y=4 (by elimination method)
4y=20 y=15
3.
Step 1.
Soledad is going to buy P10 and P18 multi-vitamin capsules with a total of 30. She has P340 and the
problem is to know the maximum number of P18 multi-vitamin capsules that she can buy.
Step 2.
Let x be P10 and y be P18.
x + y = 30;
P10x + P18y = P340
340/18 = 18
Therefore, 1≤y≤18 and 12≤x≤30
Step 3.
If 1≤y≤18 and12≤x≤30, then P10 (12) + P18 (18) = P444 > P340.
Let us try another one based on these inequalities: 1≤y≤18 and 12≤x≤30
If y = 10 and x = 20, then P10 (20) + P18 (10) = P380 > P340. It does not satisfy the given so we will try
another one for the second time.
If y = 5 and x = 25, then P10 (25) + P18 (5) = P340
Therefore, the maximum number of P18 multi-vitamin capsules that she can buy is 5.
Step 4.
x + y = 30 wherein x = 25 and y = 5
25 + 5 = 30
P10x + P18y = P340
P10 (25) + P18 (5) = P340
4.
Step 1.
Given: 8 employees
Select a manager and supervisor
The problem is to find out how many different ways can a manager and supervisor be selected from 8
employees.
Step 2.
The best thing to do in this type of problem is to use permutation to get the possible different ways in
selecting a manager and supervisor.
There are 8 employees and we need to select two from them which are the manager and supervisor thus using
the formula
n!
P(n)= ,r
( n−r )!
8!
P(8,2)=
(8−2)!
Step 3.
Using the formula that was stated in Step 2,
8!
P(8,2)=
(8−2)!
8!
P(8,2)=
6!
8 ×7 × 6× 5 ×4 ×3 ×2 ×1
P(8,2)=
6 ×5 × 4 × 3× 2× 1
P(8,2)=8 × 7=56
Answer: There are 56 different ways in selecting a manager and supervisor among 8 employees.
Step 4.
4. Make an organized list.
8 employees = A B C D E F G H
AB AC AD AE AF AG AH
BA BC BD BE BF BG BH
CA CB CD CE CF CG CH
DA DB DC DE DF DG DH
EA EB EC ED EF EG EH
FA FB FC FD FE FG FH
GA GB GC GD GE GD GH
HA HB HC HD HE HF HG
The total number of this list is 56.
5.
Step 1
6.
Step 1
Given: The first term in the arithmetic sequence is 3 and the difference of each term is 4.
a = 3; d = 4
The problem is to find the sum of the first ten terms of this arithmetic sequence.
Step 2
Based on the problem, the formula that we can use to find out the sum of the first ten terms is to use the
following formula:
n
Sn = ¿
2
Step 3
Using the formula that was stated in Step 2, substitute the following variable with the given wherein a =3; d=4;
n=10.
n
Sn= ( n−1 ) d ¿
2
10
S10= ¿
2
S10=5( 6+(9)4)
S10=5(6+36)
S10=5( 42)
S10=210
Step 4
4. List the first ten terms in the arithmetic sequence wherein the first term is 3 and the difference is 4
3, 7, 11, 15, 19, 23, 27, 31, 35, 39
Find the sum of these numbers
3+7+11+15+19+23+27+31+35+39 = 210.
Thus, the sum of the first ten terms in the arithmetic sequence is 210.
