MIDTERM GRADING ACTIVITY 1

3 Things I learned

1. The first concept that stuck with me was the idea of innovation being forward thinking. Forward
thinking involves a vision; it involves consideration beyond the present. What can we do today to
provoke excellence tomorrow? And to provoke improvements tomorrow. We can’ just think about
today, we always need to consider tomorrow. Companies that are happy with the success in front
of them, instead of the success ahead of them will not last, and will crumble in their stagnant
prosperity.
2. The lesson I learned from chapter 5 through innovation process is that creating new ideas is not
just the beginning of innovation process, but the ideas occur at the center of the innovation
process. Besides, innovation is not just a onetime event of occurrence but is a process that involves
the creation of value, which can be incremental improvements or creation of breakthrough
products or services (Sargent, 2014). Additionally, the process of innovation is to discover, create
and develop new ideas and make them into useful forms that can be used to create value, and
make the profit for the organization. Moreover, the formation of ideas is the seeds of an innovation
process. The innovation process begins with strategic thinking, then portfolio management and
metrics, research, insight and then innovation development.
3. Innovation is the action or process of innovating; developing a new product, idea, or method”.
This is a pretty general definition that I have learned to be an okay way of defining the topic,
however It hardly does it justice. Innovation is not just developing something new, it could even
be finding a new use of something old. It could be converting something useless into something
useful. A better way of doing something that already exist. The definitions are infinite. Just by
learning how unbounded the definition of innovation was, I knew immediately that the content
of this course would likewise resemble its nature.

2 Things I Found Interesting

1. I was inspired and found interesting by just the meaning of innovation. So, discussing the most
influential things I learned in this course and how they will continue to apply to my life will be easy.
2. And also, Innovation encourages students to research, explore, and use all the tools to uncover
something new. Innovation involves a different way of looking at problems and solving them. It
also improves education because it compels students to use a higher level of thinking to solve
complex problems.

1 Question I Still Have

1. What factors favor innovation as a strategic activity? What are the possible hindrances to pursuing
such a strategy?
