CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background of Study

Entrepreneurship is the application of creativity and innovation to solve and attempt

to take advantage of the opportunities that are faced every day. Entrepreneurship is a
combination of creativity, innovation, and courage to face risks which are done by
working hard to form and maintain new businesses.

Creativity is the root and the beginning of all success. Creativity is a good start but
not the end. Creativity must be accompanied by innovation, hard work, focus, unyielding
and reckless. Creativity will make people continue to work and improve their creations,
work hard and tirelessly, focus on their creations, never give up in the face of criticism
and ridicule, and be reckless. Creative people are people who create something,
constantly develop it, fight it out until it is finally accepted as something useful for
themselves.

Humans as God's creatures are equipped with the ability to create and be creative to
produce something useful not only for themselves but also for others. The creative nature
that God has bestowed upon us should be explored, developed, and ultimately shared its
benefits for others. Creativity is something that will never run out. He will always be
dynamic, growing, and bearing fruit. When people stop creating, they will automatically
become static, stop growing and stop producing fruit. And this is also why many people
can't be successful and stop at some point.

CHAPTER II
INTRODUCTION

A. The Nature of the Concept of Development

1. Definition
Etymologically, development means the process, method, act of developing.
Development generally means a pattern of growth, gradual change (evolution), and
gradual change. According to Seels & Richey in cited Abdul Muin development
means the process of translating or elaborating design specifications into the form of
physical features. 1
Development specifically means the process of producing learning materials.
Meanwhile, according to Tessmer and Richey (in Alimsumarno, 2012: 34)
development focuses its attention not only on needs analysis but also on broad issues
of early-late analysis, such as contextual analysis.2 According to the Law of the
Republic of Indonesia, Number 18 of 2002 Development is a science and technology
activity aimed at utilizing proven scientific principles and theories to improve the
functions, benefits, and applications of existing science and technology, or to produce
new technology.

2. Development Goals
The development aims to produce products based on the findings of field tests.
In essence, development is an educational effort both formal and non-formal which is
carried out consciously, planned, directed, regularly, and responsibly to introduce,
grow, guide, develop a personality basis that is balanced, intact, in harmony,
knowledge, skills according to talents, desires. as well as abilities, as a provision on
their initiative to add, improve, develop themselves towards the achievement of
optimal human dignity, quality, and abilities as well as independent individuals.3
From the opinions of the experts above, it can be concluded that development is an
effort that is carried out consciously, planned, directed to make or improve so that it
becomes a product that is increasingly useful for improving quality as an effort to
create better quality.

3. Development Concept
The concept of development is a necessity that must be applied in life, the
word concept means an idea, design, or understanding that is abstracted from
concrete events while development means the process, method, act of developing.
Thus development is a design to develop something that already exists to improve
quality more advanced. 4
If this development concept is applied in the world of entrepreneurship, then
ideas, ideas, or designs that are considered mature and successful are then further

enhanced with existing entrepreneurial goals will be further increased when this
development process continues to be rolled out.

B. Develop a creative attitude

1. Understanding Creativity
In simple terms, what is meant by creativity in this case is to present a new
idea. Creativity is a process that can be developed and improved. You must know
that each person's creativity is different, one's ability in talent, knowledge, and the
environment can also affect creativity. Creativity is an important source of
competitive power due to environmental changes.
Zimmer et al.(2009) cited Abdul Muin Bahaf (2020) defines creativity as the
ability to develop new ideas and to find new ways of looking at problems and
opportunities. Innovation is the ability to apply creative solutions to problems and
opportunities to improve or to enrich people's lives.5
Another opinion says that creativity is the ability to create a new product: (1)
Creativity is the ability to make combinations or see new relationships between
elements, data, variables, that already exist. (2) Creativity is a person's ability to give
birth to something new, either in the form of ideas or real works that are relatively
different from what has been there before. 6

2. Thinking Patterns and Creative Traits

Creative thinking patterns are also needed to describe the current state in
which an entrepreneur will operate, it will also provide a picture that cannot be
produced by exploration of current trends.
De Bono (1970) argues that creative thinking patterns are a very big motivator
because they make people very interested in their work. Creative thinking also
provides the possibility for everyone to achieve a goal. A creative entrepreneur will
make life more fun, more interesting and will provide a framework and can work
with others.7
Ransdeep (1998), mentions the characteristics of creative thinking as follows:
a) Sensitive to problems
b) Able to generate a large number of ideas
c) Flexible
d) Authenticity
e) Want to hear feelings
f) Openness to subconscious symptoms
g) Have motivation
h) Free from the fear of failure
i) Able to concentrate
j) Have the ability to choose.

6
An entrepreneur who has a high creativity development power will be able to
remodel and encourage him to develop his business environment to be successful.
Because with creativity an entrepreneur can
a) improve work efficiency,
b) increase initiative,
c) improve appearance,
d) Improve product quality, and
e) Increase profits.

3. Creative Thinking Skills

Every entrepreneur should have an entrepreneurial spirit, supported by his
creative ways of thinking. Creative thinking itself is supported by two things, namely
the mobilization of imagination and the scientific process. With creative thinking, we
can solve various kinds of problems.
People who are pessimistic think that life is only filled with suffering and
problems that are difficult to overcome, while optimistic people view that life is full
of opportunities and possibilities to move forward and succeed in life. Optimistic
humans have a positive image that can help creative thinking. Desire, wishful
thinking, ideals, life goals, life problems, astrology, fate, destiny, or all our
experiences during this life can stimulate our souls to think creatively. For that, we
should have dynamic creativity. We must always be aware and alert to everything that
is happening around us and take advantage of every event. Several mental barriers
can reduce our imagination power including:
a) a narrow view of life
b) belief in superstition,
c) Despair,
d) Lack of self-confidence,
e) Vanity,
f) Jealousy and envy,
g) Stupidity, and
h) Fear of failure.
i) problem.

4. Practicing Creative Thinking through Activities

Here are some examples to train clearer creative thinking and can be done by a
student or prospective entrepreneur, both on campus and in existing business fields,
are as follows8:
a. A student makes an attractive gift wrap with new decorations and new designs.
b. A student on campus makes a surprise by making a cake or a dish with a new
recipe as a result of her experiment.
c. Students make paper clippings to be used as decorations, for example, a bird, a
kite, a hat, a boat, an airplane, a house, and so on.
d. In the computer laboratory, a student tries various research and experiments.

e. A student arranges matchsticks into buildings, pyramids, cars, motorcycles, and
so on.

5. Creativity Development Strategy

Many things can be done to increase the ability of creativity. The following
are things that can help develop personal abilities in creativity improvement
programs as stated by James L. Adams (1986) cited in Chairunnisa maulida (2018).9
1) Recognizing relationships
Many inventions and innovations were born as a way of looking at a new and
different relationship between objects, processes, materials, technology, and
people. Like mixing the aroma of jasmine flowers with tea water and then
bottled into a fragrant and fresh bottle of tea. To help increase creativity, we can
do our static perspective on the relationship between people and the environment
that already exists. Here we try to see them in a new and different way. Creative
people will have certain intuitive relationships to be able to develop and
recognize new and different relationships from these phenomena. This
relationship can later reveal new product and service ideas. For example, we did
an exercise by looking at the relationship between chocolate cake and vanilla ice
cream, athletes and coaches, and managers and workers.
2) Develop a functional perspective
If developed further, we can see that there is a functional perspective of things
and people. A creative person will be able to see other people as tools to fulfill
his desires and help complete a job. For example, we often unconsciously use a
kitchen knife to install bolts because the hammer we are looking for is not found.
Another way we have to start is from an unconventional perspective and a
different perspective. For example: try to mention other functions of a chair, the
book we hold, and others.
3) Use common sense
Research on the use of brain function in separate parts of the left and right has
been carried out since the 1950s and 1960s. The right side of the brain is used for
things such as analogy, imagination, and others. While the left side of the brain
is used for work such as analysis, taking a rational approach to problem-solving,
and others. Although functionally he is different, in his work he must be
interconnected. The creative process includes logical and analytical thinking of
knowledge, evaluation, and implementation stages. So if we want to be more
creative, we must train and develop the abilities of our two brains. Examples of
exercises we can make according to the function of the hemispheres of the brain.
4) Remove the feeling of doubt
Many mental habits limit and hinder creative thinking. A study found that adults
only use 2-10 percent of their creative potential. For example, many people tend
to make quick judgments about people or ideas.

C. Develop Innovatively

1. Definition of innovation
Innovation (a new thing) arises from people who always think creatively.
Innovation is doing something new (doing new things). Creative or creativity comes
from the English "Creativity" which means creativity. To create: to create, to create,
and to cause.
Innovation has been recognized as one of the important functions in the
entrepreneurial process. It is a process of turning opportunities into salable ideas.
Innovation is not just a brilliant and complicated idea. Sometimes it can start from a
fleeting and trivial idea. An entrepreneur is known to have the ability to combine
imagination and creative thinking with his systematic and logical abilities. This
combination is an important provision for success. In addition, potential
entrepreneurs are always looking for unique opportunities to fulfill their needs and
wants. They build the ability to be able to see, recognize and develop opportunities
when others face them as a problem. He always asks: “What if…..Or why
not…..Every time he sees a problem.
Innovation, by Zimmerer (1996,51) is defined as the ability to apply creativity
to solve problems and opportunities to enhance and improve living standards
(Innovation is the ability to apply creative solutions to those problems and
opportunities to improve or to enrich people's live).10

2. Innovative Thinking
Innovative thinking is the process of giving birth to solutions or ideas outside
the frame of knowledge that is understood together (conservative frame), both in
terms of the knowledge of the individual who thinks or from the dominant knowledge
in his environment.
Innovative thinking aims to bring up new ideas which in the process must
fulfill 4 fundamental aspects, namely:
 High sensitivity to various problems that may not disturb the sensitivity of most
ordinary people.
 High productivity, ie the ability to produce as many answers as possible for a
single question.
 High elasticity, namely the ability to generate as many varied thoughts as
possible.
 High originality, namely the ability to generate unique and new ideas that have
never been recognized.

D. Relationship between Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

1. Creativity
Creativity is thinking about something, a person's ability to give birth to something
new, either in the form of ideas for real works that are relatively different from what
has been there before.
2. Innovation

10
Muin, Kewirausahaan (Entrepreneurship).

9
Innovation is the process of finding or implementing something new into a new
situation. The concept of novelty is different for most people because it is relative
(what is considered new to one person or in one context may be something old to
another in another context). Innovation is thinking and doing something that adds or
creates useful values. To produce innovative behavior one must view innovation as
fundamentally a manageable process.
3. Creativity and Innovation
Creativity and innovation differ in the same domain but have clear boundaries.
Creativity is concerned with the production of novel and useful ideas. While
innovation is concerned with the production or adoption of useful ideas and their
implementation.
4. Businessman
Entrepreneurship is the ability possessed by a person to see and assess business
opportunities, gather the resources needed to take appropriate action, and take
advantage to achieve success.
5. Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is essentially the nature, characteristics, and character of a person
who has the will to bring innovative ideas into the real world creatively.11

Thus it illustrates that creativity is closely related to innovation, so the theme of this
chapter is "Finding and Implementing New Ways'" which means that creativity is the
ability to bring something new into life, while innovation is the practical application
of creative ideas. In other words, being creative but not innovative is a waste because
the idea is only thought without any realization.
