    The Indian Constitution adopted the Parliamentary system of government over the Presidential system for three key reasons: 1) Britain had already implemented the Parliamentary system in India under colonial rule, so it was familiar and easy to adopt after independence. 2) The Parliamentary system emphasizes responsibility of the executive to the legislature, giving the latter more control over the former, unlike the Presidential system. 3) By allowing a working relationship and balance of power between the executive and legislative branches, the Parliamentary system was considered better suited to India's diversity compared to the Presidential system.
