Life givers
Plants through photosynthesis
➔ powers life on Earth
➔ converts solar energy into
chemical energy stored in
glucose
Plants through photosynthesis
➔ releases energy when eaten
➔ releases essential oxygen
➔ occurs in the mesophyll cells
of leaves specifically, inside
chloroplasts

Epidermis
➔ The outermost layer of the leaf is the
epidermis
➔ It consists of the upper and lower
epidermis, which are present on either
side of the leaf
➔ It aids in the regulation of gas exchange.
Epidermis
The main cell types:
1. pavement cells
2. guard cells and their subsidiary cells that
surround the stomata
3. trichomes, otherwise known as leaf hairs.

Mesophyll
➔ It is the internal ground tissue located
between the two epidermal cell layers:
palisade and spongy
➔ Cell types:
1. parenchyma
2. collenchyma
