New/Online Media

Information Search The Internet and the World Wide Web become
Media repositories of or sources of a vast collection of
information that can be accessed real-time
despite geographical location. Since smartphones
and tablets now include this feature, personal
computers are no longer the only devices that
may be used to retrieve information.
Other means of information storage and retrieval:
personal video recorder, CD-ROM, compact disk,
DVD, and cloud computing applications.

Collective
Participatory Media Refers to the use of the Internet for “sharing
and exchanging information, ideas, and
experiences and developing active

Identify the types of media you will use in the following situation. Explain
your answer.
1. You need to discuss in the class the latest trends technology. Your discussion
should be accurate and up-to-date.
2. There is a heavy storm in your area. Your family wants to know updates from
the government, but there is a massive blackout. Network signals are
unavailable too.
3. Your teacher in 21st Century Literature wants you to provide a point-by-
point analysis of Haruki Murakawi’s Norwegian Wood.
4. You need to need to know how to compute the body mass index (bmi) for
your sister’s assignment in MAPEH.
5. For your report in Oral Communication, you need to analyze how the
president will deliver his upcoming State of the Nation Address. Your
analysis must include his language, gesture, and his way of speaking.
Media
Convergence
“Media convergence is a theory in
communications where every mass medium
eventually merges to the point where they
become one medium due to the advent of new
communication technologies."
Chakavaneh and Bogen (2007)
▪ the co-existence of traditional
and new media;
▪ the co-existence of print media,
broadcast media and new media
which allowing media content to
flow across various platforms;
▪ the ability to transform different
kinds of media into digital code,
which is then accessible by a
range of devices, thus creating a
digital communication
environment
Different learning modalities are adapted by DepEd
so that it can cater the needs of the students amid
the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the modalities is
blended learning. Relate blended learning to media
convergence in terms of education.
